of acton as a member of the town council for the past two years significant progress has been nude but there are many urgent matters that need careful consideration ui the years that ik ahead if acton u to be a progressive commuiutya better place to raise a family or relax when you retire at a school principal education has been my main billwfuliams mr wrlhams is mimed and lives on mowbray pljce he has four years experience on council and is seeking to maintain his seat he has also been on parks board the industrial development commission and the fire- department he assisted with the township jim and bill in b c and joyce in burlington he likes municipal work and feels his previous experience wdl stand him in good stead for the citizens of acton im foi progress but at the same time i like to keep an eye on the mill rate theres no use having progress if you cant pay for it earl masalls mr and mrs masales live on jeffrey and have three children hes been three years on council and seeks to return he has served on every committee sif council and on the parks hoard he is also past president ot the ys men and the y hoard council is losing experienced people this year and lie feels his metallurgy technician he has been active on the tncounty minor hockey executive he says i would place particular emphasis on a sound planning policy to assure serviceable and economically etficient expansion which may necessitate the implementation ot discreet and just annexation and expropriation agreements through careful study o successtul larger municipalities i feel a great deal can be accomplished and money saved by avoiding cosily errors ui planning and development if elected i will be in a position to view each proposal objectively and impartially as i am under no commitment to any organizations in town that would be directly assisted or adversely affected by my opinions bill oats high school icachei hill c oals wite and toui children live on young st he eommrnt since moving to acton in 1s8 i have come not only to giou very lond ot acton hut also to feel that this is the kind ot town that 1 uant my family to glow up in 1 icel that the progress ot acton must continue in the duettion tilnch previous councils have duct led it we must continue to search tor new industries tor the town in order to maintain the balance 14 that has so long existed in hie commercialresidential assessment we must not make the mistake of allowing the residential assessment to outpace the commercial assessment at the same tunc acton must prepare for a population increase the neod for additional dwellings for cither ownership or rental is a serious problem in acton more limd is needed for further residential growth the building code should be revised to allow builders to use many of the modern materials and techniques that have been produced by our modern technology this does not mean a wholesale change in building code but an enlightened amendment to lie code based on sound professional advice from all available sources of information another area of concern is that of thi use of our increasing leisure time the ymca and the parks and recreation committee are currently investigating the recreational facilities in acton the council muil give active support and encouragement to this work our recreation il progr im mil facilities should extend to all residents of acton from the very young to our senior citizens next year for the first tune the home owners in acton will receive separate tax bills one from the town of acton and one from the newly created halton board of lducation home owners should pay taxes to the town for the benefits that they receive directly from the town i feel however that home owners should not bear the burden of taxes for educational purposes everyone benefits from the education of our young people but the tax base for educational purpose must be broadened to the whole of society council should do everything in its power to influence and encourage the government of ontario to reassess the taxes for educational eurposc and to remove it as a urden on the home owners the town of acton must cooperate with the other municipalities in halton on a modern program to decrease and ultimately eliminate the pollution of our water and air if elected i will cooperate with all the members of council to continue the excellent work done in the past and to work toward a prosperous and progressive town of acton as we move uito the future in these difficult days 41 candidates tor 16 seats fortyone candidates wdl
