returns came into election headquarters in the township offices about 8s0 pm from the hornby district it set the pattern for the race for reeve and deputyreeve as well as showing there would be a close four way race for the three council seats between councillors patterson and leslie and challengers ken marshall and russell miller mr goodlet although he gained considerably in later polls was close but failed to gain enough votes to overcome the early lead mr hicks was never in contention by 920 p jn with five polls in it was evident the reeve and deputyreeve had commanding leads and were shooins for their posts but council was a fourway race mr marshall paced the council vote but he lost the lead to mr miller when the limehouse and glen williams returns arrived home territory for him mr leslie and mr- patterson battled right down to the final pollthe large glen williams vote- which was late in arriving and kept a large crowd of voters who assembled in the township anxiously waiting someone surreptitiously smuggled unofficial returns in before they were put on the board by assessment commissioner art benton who along with clerk k c lindsay and del french and jeff denny tallied results and had them posted the arrival of official returns about 1030 pm made results final and a short postelection meetina followed where both the newlyelected and defeated candidates who remained spoke briefly reeve currio recosnized he had been reelected in the largest vote for the reeves chair yi township history deputy reeve tom hill said the results gave him a pretty good feeling to come back a winner russell- miller said winning the election gave him a wonderful feeling and he hoped to fulfill the trust placed in him ken marshall assured ratepayers he didnt intend to turn things upside down in the township but would give due consideration to all the issues wilfrid leslie said he could see a good council in 196970 and would continue to do his best malcolm freeman said he chose to run for reeve because he did not like to see acclamations and was happy to see the numbers who came out to vote jim france said the peoples choice took the deputys posj but he asked council to do something about the town line north of norval the reeve replied it was quite likely the road would soon be part of the county road system councillor pat patterson defeated in his bid for reelection was last to speak and he congratulated the successful candidates a light vote for the separate school members for the ltalton county board of education saw hugh henderson lead the poll with
