i i th acton fra prata wednesday may 7 1969 wi holds two workshops publishes district bulletin by wendy thomson well the gootoncttln season is over and compared to bit year it was a very uneventful few montlif the geese by ml hatclied and meandered ofr into the swamp with their offspring tootluig along behind last year wa full of odd situation to begin with our taniycat disappeared for a few days and i was just about at wits end when cord spoiled her down at the goose bahi she lud discovered the delicacy of freili mouse and couldnt bring herself to conm back to that plain old canned catood i ket worrying however because die- wajfexpecllugher lint litter and i wondered where jh wat sleepirti to keep wirni know that cats have a built in eiderdown but that didnt hop the wony also the geese weie often quite rutty to any intruders much to our wotlder and surprise we soon found thai the geese lud accepted her and her rodentremoving services to such a degree that she had moved in lummy tail and all and li all settled down on a nett her pjws tucked in mandarin style with a smile on her furry face when i asked iter what site thought site was doing she give a louder series of purrs three or four slanlyeyed blinks and settled lief stomach fluff a little belter on her egg tins lasted about a wek and we olien wondered if she gol up and turned her egg wlten live geese did a few days after site came home pepe enter the picture thli little gosling couldnt get right out of hia shelf and when we brought him up to the luiuse to finish shelling him we found that he lud a crick in his neck tlut nude it hard for himc to walk until he learned to balance and a little difficult to eat we thought tlut if he got a little stronger he might straighten up and kept him in the house for a week or so since our living room floor isnt finislied its just plywood as yet i didnt mind the little oilet of eclcrv leaves erats and chi cken food here and therewell didnt mind too much pepe toon learned how to spread everything over half the floor quite nicely a batch of month old kittent helped tin it up and had to be disciplined quite slurply to discourage the idea that pepe was a playmate our main problem was naptime which was every halfhour or to pepe wanted company a heating pad clock and cover did for a day or to then he began crying again all someone had to do was set him on one hand and cover him with the other and hed compact himself and go off to sleep the most delightful thing ive ever heard is tiie noise lie made as he drowsed it was part twitter and part warble getting softer and softer as he went to sleep almost like a chirpy purr one day when i was doing use diilies and didnt want to slop to hold him i popped him down inside use sloppy fleece lined pullover i was wearing lie dug hit toes in settled down and all went well until someone came to the door i never did find our wlut he wat selling lie didnt gel past the im from wlien my chest woke u and started tutnmg around my feeble its a goose mustnt have been too convincing as the poor guy just gave me an odd lool and walked off much to my relief iuft wlu had four twoweekold kittens solved the problem by adopting pepe at first she wasnt too keen on waihing him feathers and fur werent quite the tame on the tongue but in the end slie mothered him as tier own lie was immensely happy burrowing down under live kittens it did cause quite a few raised eyebrows though when people came to see the litters and saw this intensely yellow kit in a tile of tabby ones it was always what an off colored cat until lie raiccd his head as i laid it t a dull year this year the geese hatched all lite eggs and the cats lud only kittens a baked pudding for these days when you want to be outside
