again and i juit ditcoveied i m a pack rat during my somewhat liiort lifetime i teem to have hoarded more ilun the usual mount of junk and ive carted it with me on every move for example in one box i found a valentine from a iteady in grade nx a piece of driftwood reiembhng a undpiper found on toronto liland one sunday lite receipt for a room in quebec city where even live itairi were lopsided a 21 tt birthday caid from dad a spoon from caia lonu imuggted out in my ilioe after a dance stickers advertiung rxpo 67 that i gave out in tlie tubway for a dnljat an hour nine lelleri from an old old boyfriend tix graduation cards a couple of rotting coruget one ihopttick from a joint we used tu call chewy lewyt and a ton of other little treaiurei of no particular value i know 111 probably never use need or want any of them they juit tit around where ever i am and i cant bare the thought of throwing them away a piyihologiit might deline file as a computuve tecunlyieekcr hed uy that along with memories of former feari complexes and piobcrm i hang on to possessions which are the part in tohd form i do all tins not because i necessarily like the pait but because i am afraid of wltat might take its place furthmore hed conclude that to throw out these things i would have to make a deciiion to do so and i hate to make decisions once hed convinced me i really do have a serious problem he would go on to assure me that everyone faces a future of risks and uncertainty and holding on to u shipload of souvemii isn t going lo protect me from disappointment with that i d say well im not about to be beaten by hoarders hangup and id stomp out of his office i decided it was time to finally face the decision to pilch or not to pilch i weighed the pros and cons of all that excess baggage juid i decided lo keep it all the truth is i have a rotten memory and i need little reminder i enjoy rummaging through my junk when things are dull or ive just gotten myself into another hopeless mess its just like people collecting stamps postcards or plants only im not as specialized or particular actually in tome ways its thinking of the future it will be fun lo confront my little brother with letters he wrote me when he thinks hes dreadfully sophisticated and always has been besides i bet it will all come in handy when i come to write my first big novel i did throw out the corsages and the driftwood sprouting worms they were athletics particularly running have always tended to be the biggest thing in mr andrews hie t in high school he won crosscountry canadian championships all the way along in 1938 lie set a juvenile canadian one mile recofd of four minutes 32 seconds after completing high school lie entered setoh hall university in south orange new jersey on an athletic scholarslup where lie won the national indoor twomile telay championship two years in a row local fans used to watch him on television when he competed n major canadian and american meets he came back and hes glad he did he explains when i went to high scltool itere i found that if you were willing to lake the initiative you could do pretty well what you wanted i had a lot of ideas and i knew tltey would let me try tliem out in the three years since ft began teaching he lias been abb to build up a topnotch track team the scliool has won seven cross country tlllei one cwcssa track and field championship and two district track titles speaking from experience mr andrews is convinced that more athletic scliolarships should be offered to canadian universities at the present time simon fraser in the rockies is i lie only one to offer the oppoutunily athletic ability is a god given gift juit like art or music why shouldnt the athlete be helped if he has the marks to go along with it every four yean we cry over how poorly we do at the olympics athletics is one field that we could excel in if we supported it mr andrews gets discouraged with students who adopt the ldontcareattltude to his classes a person lhouldrtt fail because of his physical inability but he should fail on his attitude effort and interest i find it extremely difficult to associate with some stuuentso because they seem to have a different value system i believe that if youre going lo do anything you ihould want to do it well if you chose to be a student you should work at it and this requires selfdiscipline ive had to push myself to get where i got and i know how v among the principals in the school play an apple for the teacher was the handsome carter drake actually gav nesiettl with an arm around the spunky old time choolmarm meta battler actually cathy ashley i student included swat simmons jim frlcnll makeup artist carol patterson we caught the teen scene fashion snow prntd by th high tchool length format to frilly flannelette pyjama all of the doth were t j j 1 tou or hl nam eonomlo tudnt featured ttyl for vmood from full iirwde and modelled by the studerttjsth photo prt in tn production suff photo far you can go maybe this hi why i expect so much from olliers mr andrews has a few criticisms of the present health program in high scliools in grades 9 and 10 the students concentrate on structure and function of the body he feels tills is a bore and should be skimmed over quickly so the emphasis can be on how outside influences such as drugs or how tack of exercise effects the body grades 1 1 and 1 2 study wlial is called psychological health here he feels there ihould be more emphasis on family life mr andrews believes sex education has a definite place in school because parents are not taking on the responsibility i can tell that 1h parents are embarrassed to talk to their children by some of the questions i get in class he comments lie has no hopes for a football team for acton in the first place he feels the budget cant juttify an investment in equipment that only about 24 boys would make use of in addition he is convinced that pitted against much larger schools the team would have no chance of winning i dont agree with everybody who says winning isnt important if you lose and you know youve done your best then you have to accept it but winning ihould always be your goal if you cant do something well you shouldnt do it in his spare time mr andrews is on his own physical fitness kick he jogs 1 2 miles six days a week preparing to go back into competition in one to six mile races i feel i havent done what im capable of doing if i dont do it now 111 never get back i can always coach later pafrollers enjoy tour actons two representatives dune
