close the wound which was caused by the teeth of the cutter retajnier most citizens when peter arthur smith of hill hall passed away last sunday morning for nearly a year mr smith had been suffering from an effection in the throat several operations were performed and the most skilled medi cal attention was given constantly but without avail the trouble steadi ly progressed and mr smiths suf ferings were intense his death la a great loss to the community for he was a friend to all and always gen erous to those who were in need for many years mr smith was superin tendent for messrs beardmore co in their tanneries at acton and brace- bridge and was always a popular em ployer some five years ago he retired from active work in the tanning busi ness and has since devoted himself to his numerous personal interests he was a mason of the 32 degree and frequently attended the chapter at georgetown and the blue lodge at acton and bracebrldge mr smith was an enthusiastic curler and belong ed to both oeorgetown and acton clubs he is survived by mrs smith who through all the years of their wedded life has been a devoted part ner and during his long illness gave her constant care and solicitude and three daughters miss pearl at home mrs mcdonald wife of j m mc donald superintendent of beardmore leather co acton mrs session of toronto mr smith m also survived by a brother dr henry smith a pro- fessor in boston technical school boston mass and miss smith an older sister of adamsvlhe que mr smith was a native pt quebec and was in his 73rd year he was an adherent and generous supporter of the united church action while a resi dent of bracebrldge he was for a number of years a member of the town council and was mayor for some six year the funeral which was held on
