guelph daily mercury joins with the citizens of guelph in ex tending congratulations td mr hiram wallace on the occasion of his con ten ary and in wishing him further years of happiness one hundred years is a long time as the span of life goes the oldest living pioneer of this district in the trust sense of tho term for he yas born in the township of nassagaweya a few miles from this city and has re sided in this section of ontario for a full century mr wallace retains his faculties to a remarkable degree and has lost none of his zest for living afflicted with none of the ailments that so often go hand in hand with age he enjoys every minute of every day his life linked with the early days he is one of the few left who remem ber this thriving city of guelph as a hamlet of scattered log houses and who in retrospect can hear the long drawn howl of the vjolf pack as it swept through the wilderness on the hunt can recall the oxen as they strained on the yoke mr wallace has run the full gamut of experience his ttfe has been a- full one his longevity he attributes to hard work and plenty of it and that probably ias much to do with the happiness that is part and parcel of his philosophy of life possibly the fact that he made it a point to be happy and pushed aside worries and anxieties also had something to do with it during the one hundred jars that mr wallace has been on this earth he has seen canada grow from swaddling in arms to a lusty young nation he has seen a good many other changes from pioneer days of the oxcart down the years to the automobile and aircraft and expects to see yet others before he is called from this vale of tears- ouelph mer cury umehouse mr and mrs h b mcdonald of toronto visited mrs lepoldevin over week end mr and mrs thos haines of
