county judging competition 1931 the combined livestock and v do- rriestlc science judging competitions held in halton county on saturday june flth were the largest and most enthusiastic ever held in the county based on records available plf tyone young men and sixty-eight- young wo men took part in the two oompeti- tlohs a great deal of the credit for the success of the girls competition is due to miss betty wallace of the institute branch for her capable handling of the coaching classes held prior to the competition in seven points throughout the county and both the boys and girls competitions reacted very favorably to the public spirited attitude of local men and business organizations which coopera ted with the local branch of- the department of agriculture in furnish ing new trophies and working up en thusiasm- for the first time the high boy and high girl in the two competitions are being given- cheques for payment on their expenses on he organised trip to chicago with the party from the province of ontartof tktoon fea ture contributed to the success of the competition as much as anything else aiiid so tar as the young women are concerned the county womens in stltute deserve congratulations and appreciation for their individual and qolleouve efforts for financing the ohis expenses in order to see that the boys were not behind the girls the palermo junior panders are co operating with the deportment of agriculture in financing the expenses of the boy in addition mr john atkins owner and operator of the oakvllle record and manager of tbe agricultural press association made a special award of a cheque for 1000 for each the high boy and high girl towards their expenses with the stipu lation that each on the return of the party must prepare for publication an article on my impressions of the chicago trip in addition the following public spirited gentlemen placed permanent troples endowed with miniatures each year in competition as follows horses the late donald robertson milton beef cattle duncan campbell moffat dairy cattle col d h c m georgetown sheep amos m warden of halton for 1931 acton and swine thoa blakelodk mul oak ville and each of these presented their trophies in person or by proxy at the banquet which concluded the competition m addition the local branch of the bank of toronto plac- ed m competition a permanent trophy endowed with three yearly miniatures for lntertownship competition m the domestkt science judging competl tion and this trophy was presented at tbe banquet by mr h mcnlchoi manager of the mihon branch the bank of nova scotia placed a per manent trophy in competition for ln tertownship competition endowed with three yearly miniatures in the livestock competition this trophy was personally presented by mr w b clements manager of the milton branch v the olrls judging competition was held in uie school room of knox pres byterian church milton under the direction of miss betty wallace and assisted by misses eadle howe grey there ww be no increase in the price of red rose tea or coffee on account of the new duty and increased sales tax t h e8tabrook8 co limited troarto oatatto i wise and mrs shorey their competl tion was along the usual lines of olrls judging competitions nutrition house furnishings and clothing the livestock judging competition was under tbe direction of the agri trail farm owned by oeneral greenly at palermo fof hereford cattle jos howards palermo for holstelns jos wlllmotts sauton for sheep and the farm at- trie late don ald robertson for clydesdale horses and yorkshire swine reasons were taken in the town hall milton during the afternoon a particularly pleas ing feature of the competition was the interest that the boys- and girls took to their work and bo far as the boys competition was concerned the particularly keen interest that was taken with the discussion of the vari ous classes by the judges when rea sons were completed this education al feature of the competition was par ticularly stressed by the agricultural representative tnjb banquet which was held to conclude the competition in knox church school room milton was at tended by over 125 and proved a fitt ing close to one ot the best days for the halton county juniors that the county has ever experienced during the evening mr m p wcjhall and miss eadle both gave addresses- that were both entertaining and inspiring for both the competitors arid those who were not so intimately acquaint ed with thewdrk at the banquet the prizes and re sults were an announced and the girls
