group of security deal ers and several banks for the raising of kmooo000 of this offering 20- 000000 is being issued in the form of 15year debentures smile the balance of the issue will run for a period of 3 years this choice of maturity wul it anticipated meet the varying re quirements of investors the 15year bonds are being of fered to yield 540 while the smaller amount of 3year debentures is being offered to ykjd this offering has been looked for ward to with a considerable degree of interest since the statement made by prenqer henry two or three week ago with regard to prospective financ ing- by the province since the torn of the year two im portant tltr opfnalians been carried out suecessfuuy during the first weak in january the b of new brunswick sold 8500800 of de bentures wtuch were issued to refund oertaln rhrfturtng obngauons and to cover the cost of coristructtng roads and public buildings the new bruns wick kotte was followed by one to raise 815000000 for the ouyof korjueal the montreal bonds ware twoed to yield 8 and met artta a aattsttetory reception when offered last tuesday the city of montreal needed the moneyi partly to meet maturing ob ligations and partly for defraying the cost of construction of certain im portant public works part of such works being for the relief of unem ployment this financing by the province of ontario represents the third lmport- tant piece of financing since the turn of the year these three pieces of qnanclng represent the first issues to be made by important public bodies since the early summer of 1931 with the exception oftne national service loan which was brought out in the closing months of the year the satisfactory reception accord ed the issues of new brunwlck and the city of montreal doubtless influen ced the governments decision to mar ket lts bonds at this time security dealers in ontario anti cipate a large volume of enquiries from within the province for the loan as at the time or the offering of the tfew brunswick and montreal issues it was found that quite a number of in vestors stated that they were wait ing for the issue to be made by their own province as announced by the prime the co operation of the local agricultural re those mr birds loca tion on account of the excellent corn which he usually grows his 1931 field was grown on a clay loam following pasture sod mr bird uses ontario grown corn which is wall suited to the climate and normally makes a good yield but he was anxious to learn if he could improve both yield and quality of the crop in the test he tried 375 lbs per acre eg earn of the following rertat- jrs 2124 which gave him 143 tons total crop per acre 47 tons of which ears 3189 which yielded 144 tons 4 tons of which were ears his unferthued section yielded mm 128 tons 4 tons of which were ears this shows that his land was naturally in good heart mr blriwas careful to drill ue fertiliser into the soil at the time the corn was planned so that the fertiliser was all given equally good opportunity to function it is interest ing to note in the yields that the addition of nitrogen accounted for al most a ton of ears fertilisers in creased the yield per acre 18 tons nt only la the increased yield of direct interest to those who followed the tests on mr birds place but the improvement in quality shown by the increased yield of ears will show to ad- itage when mr bird is feeding the uago during this winter one thing is sure if the quality is there tn the ears of com in the en it will not have tojie purchased ta such large quantities in
