subject of the problem of social services was ably brought forward by miss- margaret gould executive sec retary of pie child welfare council of toronto who in her charming nnr answered various questions an the administration of such social services as unemployment relief etc she ably brought out the overwhelm jug percentage costs of government and maintenance of public works as against the of certain relief projects approval was given to the donation of ssojoo to the cen tral relief committee and 1500 to the poppy day fund a request was received from charlton county nor them ontario asking for a bale of clothing to assist in allaying the ter rible distress in that locality before presenting this request the president had ascertained from the local com mittee in charge of administering clothing supplies that by sending such a bale the members would not be diverting to other channels clothing that should be kept for the relief work in the town arrangements were made that this bale be packed under the direction of the local needs committee a special collec tion wastsken to buy new goods in the form of socks stockings and wool the balance of the bale to be made up of used clothing sent in by the members and friends mrs geo campbell kindly consented to receive the donations at her home the- bale to be packed by the 14th inst the central relief committee again re quested that the institute take charge or the packing of the christmas ham pers miss watson kindly offered to receive donations of goods stutsble fair packing in these hampers and also to allpwhhe
