declaration of office as read by town clerk harrison had been subscribed to by the members of council on request of mayor gibbons the devotional part of the meeting was left in the hands of the ministers after reading the 13th chapter of pauls letters to the romans rev f c overend led in prayer asking gods guidance in municipal and town affairs generally mayor gibbons thanked the clergy for tion of o for the year 1988 it ls a pleasure to know that in transact- lng public business i will be assoclat ed with many of my former coll eagues reeve davis mr costigan mr hall mr crtpps and mr lyons all of whom i am convinced will re new their efforts in the interests oi good municipal government i take this opportunity to publicly congratulate mr brown and mx smith on their election to tbe known farmer of the milton district william george bousfleld passed away at his home in milton on thurs day of last week deceased was born in wentworth county near carlisle taxes not only interferes with all de partments of civic service but also keeps the tax rate higher by sevrai mills than it otherwise would be in appealing to the members or the council for their cooperation may i suggest to the chairman of the vari ous committees to seriously conslde the money available when m their requisitions may x remind the membezaof the council and all cltl sens interested in civic advancement that it was by the curtailment unnecessary expenditures by the members of this council and councils of recent years rather than any m crease in revenue that has establish ed in the town of georgetown a situ atlon financially sound and it is only by careful municipal administration in the future that this situation may be m owing to the bad condition of the roads and considering the large ex penditure for the maintenance and protection from dust you will be ask ed in the near future to consider a hard surface road building program i suggest if started this year it tnay be carried on and completed by fu ture councils it is my intention at the next regular meeting of the council to sub mit for your approval a by law to is sue debentures for approximately 15000 00 tor the payment of the housing loan of the municipal ty we have in the past been nmlnn s per cent to the province on this loan which involved a levy f 2 mills whereby we may now with the consent of the department or mniicl pal affairs issue debentures bearing second and third reading was given the above by law and it was finally passed and the seal of the corporation attached thereto moved by davis seconded by lyons that the regular meetings of council for 1938 be held on the first tuesday of each month carried council adjourned to meet or- thursday jan 20th at the close of the meeting the following were guests he had appre ciated very highly the cooperation of the clergy medical health officer town officials col james ballantlne for his splendid work in connection with the centennial celebration and the press in their efforts to assist the council to make georgetown one of the best towns in the province the singing of the maple leaf brought this very pleasant and happy gathering to a close and moved to a farm near boyne where he farmed successfully for aju thereby not only creating a av period of fifty years he retired- to i ing of 1 l s- to the municipality but milton ten years ago where he
