jwnior plmy oft games this week friday at milton monday milton at georgetown midget games this week back in 1b29 30 the blair hornets were the champlonjof the waterloo county rural hocketleague rhe embro team from the rural league of south oxford had won the cbun plonship of the league in that coun ty lome johannes of blair who was the founder of the rural hockey league broughthe two teams to gether and blair won the deciding game mr johannes then decided that tbe game was not all it should have been because the two teams bad played their local group under different rules he called a meeting of representatives of all the rural groups that were then operating the association was formed and mr johannes was appointed secretary which position he still holds meet ings were held a strong executive formed and they soon learned the problems of rural hockey since the forming of the assocla tlon a complete set of rules have been adopted to conform with the rules of the ontario hockey assocla tlon and the rural association is af filiated with that body it has often happened that ring era could be injected into play off games thus spoiling the idea ot pure amateurism the rules of thr ruraj association are so strong on that point now that whole teams have been disqualified for using one ineleglble player and by adhering strictly to that rule the executive has been able to discourage the un fair practice each team club and player must abide by the rules or out they go last year there were over 10 teams connected with the assocla thft organisation is not out to make money it is in business simply to foster good clean hockey on an amateur standing and it has done more to promote that idea than any other association in existence in ontario there are three series interrnediate a and b up to 1000 population and senior for centre over 1000 population the ontario rural hockey assocl atlon has as its slogan where real amateurs play for the fun of it it means just that and nothing more those who don t like the idea are not wanted here are some of the rules in vogue a player can play in only one team in one series in one season senior or intermediate a or b no release can be granted after a player has played his first league game of the current playing season any player having signed an oha certificate for the current season will be barred from ojijia competition any player who has held a senior oha or professional playing cam is debarred from competition in any week end specials thursday friday and saturday friday feb 11 bruins vs maple tlon arena are signed in triplicate here are a few of the reasons why the players like playing in the rura association because they know they will bi matched against their equals and they do not fear some team putting on a few ringers for a crucial game they know that their disputes will be handled by men who are not in touch with local prejudices no member of the executive can have anything to do with the settle ment of any disputes raised by or af feeling his own league the rural association gives the young fellow from the sparsley settled districts a chance to play in organlz ed hockey which in turn may be the beginning of a great hockey ca reer which could not be obtained in any other way is there any reason why the george town district could not sponsor a lea gue in this rural hockey association yes we know it is too late to think about it this season but it is worth giving a thought for another season there are numerous villages in this neighborhood that could sponsor teams in this association while not pre pared to enter in the oha george town erin hlllsburg brampton and inglewood are all prospects for an other season to enter teams in an as sociatlon that has such a one economic and socldl conditions existing in the country it lajs before- the people the difficulties which confront the people and suggestions are advanced foi their amelioration not that all the suggestions are very profitable they too oltcn bear the mark of strong po lucttl partisanship but the spccchid cover a wide held and from tbe ore of oratory which fills page of hansard may be extracted a good deal or gold of sound senie it is the wurk of our leaders to smell the gold and coin it into legislation lor the good of the people this set on mr bennett started the ball rolling by making n general attack on the speech from the throne and on the record of the government he critlclztd the ambiguous language the speech with igor and an occasional flash of satire he attacked the national defence department for not mil i aining sicrecy about its defence of the pacific coast on the econam c side he pointed to the change irojn a favorable to an ad verse balance of trade with the unit ed stat he round fault with the political nature of the admlnlstra tlon of the committee in charge of western rehabilitation and relief he thought an indepu dent committee should be in charge of this work on he very important question of the revision of the constitution mr bennett thought the will of the peo pie should be on amendments con templatcd he gave as an example the wav constitutional changes are carried out in australia the gov eminent he said should have a policy for building up domestic markets to take up the recoil when in times of depression some foreign markets might be lost or decline in value he charged that there was a great deal of electoral corruption rampant in canada on these and a number nf other points he made out his brief against the government he moved an amendment to the spjech from the throne in which regret was express ed wat the government have not tak en or contemplate taking efficient measures to deal with unfavorable economic conditions in canada and that no legislative action la proposed to deal effectively with xhe prevailing uncertainty and insecurity resulting from the inadequate incomes of large numbers of our people according
