board said that georgetown school had one of the best ratings in the province that music and art had been added to the curriculum and that the board was fortunate in se curing the services of mr carman snteufteas director for forms i to tv a glee club of some 80 voices had been formed and would take part at the- commencement exercises next month he bespoke of other achieve ments of the school ll pupils an increase of 15 over 1937 are now on the roll mr dayfoot said the board had expended more than their esti mate this year owing to some 4440 needed for repairs to the roof of the school the chairman did not go into the high school addition in de tall but stressed the need for such an addition in order to cope with present day education regulations and give georgetown pupils the same advant ages as other towns he said that when the govemuent and county grants had been received against fie proposed addition the cost to town would amount only to about 1 000 00 a year over a twenty year period a little less than a mill on the tax rate mr dayfoot also stated that thegntarjofire marshals de partment had ordered draseiccirrg- es in the location of the heating ss tern owing to a fire hazard but cad stayed the order for a time so that should the town consider an addition this expense could be met at the same time and prevent duplication they would not bring this matter be fore the ratepayers at present but something would have to be aone sooner or later mr john d kelly of the public school board addressed the meeting in regard to the public school he said that georgetown was fortunate in having such a competent staff it the school and that the school rated among the best in the province mr kelly assured the ratepayers the board had tried to keep within tie estimates but that some improvements would have to soon be made to the building and heating system the school board was making plans for a safety patrol to care for the children crossing the highway at school hours he hoped the plan would soon go into effect the safety patrol plan is alo being taken up by the provincial gov eminent he had been a member of the board for eight years and ap preciated the acclamation accorded him for 1939 mr fred mcnally who was nomm ated for councillor in ward firee thanked his nominees for propc ng his name but said he would be able to fill the position mr h c
