of graduation diplomas and athletic awards timely remarks by chairman c b dayfoot the mnimi commencement of the georgetown high school was held in the gregory theatre thursday even xng december 15th m the large audience which filled the w theatre showed by their generous ip- plause their appreciation of the n- teretslng programme given by the pu pils of the high school the varied programme of vocal solo monologue dances and drama aisoosea the variety of talent that has been developed among our young people the school orchestra which won the shield at the halton musical festival last spring opened the porgramme with a theme from a symphony by f schubert and contributed other numbers to the programme the ex cellent work of the orchestra could be still further improved if more vio lins were available as the principal mr j l lambert pointed out the large choir of the newly estab- llshed vocal music department sang very beautifully a number of songs and closed the programme with two christmas carols the audience join- l in singing the third verse of each carol excellent progress has been made in this department under the leadership the- recently appointed leader mr carman georgetown next saturday afternoon the annual community christmas tree and street show for the child ren sponsored by the lions club will be held in georgetown on saturday next dec 24th santa claus will arrive in town and join the parade which will start from the town hall at 3 oclock and pro ceed down main street to the large illuminated christmas tree here santa will maks his distribution as usual to the children of georgetown and vicinity all of whom are invited to meet him here it is expected that the band fire men and many others will take part in the parade the draw for fowl will take the matter over moved by w a wilson seconded by c h may that this council do now adjourn to meet at the call of the reeve carried stewarttown december 2 1938 the council met on friday after noon with all memb present reeve n a robinson presided mr wheeler and mr keely attend ed the meeting on behalf of the mo- ton brick ltd mr carter from the department of municipal affairs and mr leroy dale were
