the sun set in the skies until the dayjis done in beginning our little say this week with the above- verse tine might take the first line ol the poem to mean that the local hockey group is not over for georgetown un til the final gong after sixty minutes of hockey between brampton arid i3ejottpmopolgmany would be wet blanketthrowers wou1ct that georgetown are beaten before they get started but let them read this poem the lire mentioned is probably the ire aroused in the locall players when they find themselves ganged up on by the other teams in the group after a very successful beginning the very essence of the verse should give the players that- somethlng which makes strive greater heights and gives the fans more confidence in their favorites the oha have failed to recognize the hockey clubs plea for rein stated of coach mcglnnis why all the delay we cannot understand even an acknowledgement of the let ter would be the least they could do in the meantime coach mcglnnis is on the outside looking in and with his enthusiam for the georgetown tjim thl is nhnrwf all he can stand however patience will have to be the order until the ojla acts remem berlng that job had patience now mac dont ask me who job was we just cant stop writing of how brampton trounced the mighty bolton team twice in a row may be it is because it is so unusual for brampton to win a game and then again maybe we have been under estimating them and still again they will have to keep an eye on bill anthony for after scoring six goals in one period as he did over in bol ton last week will no doubt send the toronto maple lears scouters scurry tog out to brampton again probably wondering how they could have guess ed so wrong up in acton last tuesday night the georgetown pirates took a 6 v in over acton lome boots the rural league the first period openea rather slowly lome scots scored the first goal and really de served the lead on the play in the second period the pirnies began to find themselves and tied it up one to one vith chaplin getting the goal the lome scots again broke away with only one man to beat and again took the elad georgetown had been ganging them and keeping the puck in the lome scots area most of the second period in the third period the pirates let loose and chaplin again scored to tie it up c bradley then put georgetown in front for the first time with two neat goals j sargent broke up an acton rush and slipped around the defense to flip the puck in for the fifth goal the georgetown defence weakened and acton banged one in to bring the- score up to a 3 acton pressed hard to tie it up but w bradley scored to salt the old game away and moke the final score fl 3 the acton goal keeper woods not woods of the in termcdlates kicked out many what looked one sided score of 9 to 1 huttonvllle has several very good players on their team but it was the pirates night and they really went to town to keep their winning streak intact the first period had judt been underway a few minutes when georgetown open ed the scoring c bradley checking a huttonvllle man as he tried break away and going in on the goalie to flip the puck in the net just a few minutes later sargent did exactly the same thing to make the score at the end of the first period 0 for the pirates in the second period huttonvllle started off with mulnss scoring on a lovely solo rush rounding the defense and back hand lng the puck uast hoare to make it that seemed to really make the pirates go to work and before the second period had ended sargent presswood and mcnally bad banged the puck past the huttonvllle goal keeper to make the score 5 1 in the third period the pirates kept up their onslaught on the huttonvllle goal and put four more goals in mak lng the final score 91 o bradley scoring three goals was the big scorer followed closely by sargent mcnally and presswood with two each the entire team played a great game while mulllss was the best for hut- tonvjlle t mondays scheduled game with everton was defaulted to the pirates throughout the schedule the pirates hove played 8 games won 7 and tied 1 on tuesday night next the round robin series start with six of the nine teams playing each other once geor meet everton and it should be a reafhard battle both teams went through the schedule undefeated except for the defaulted game ofmonday night spend pleasant evening in acton at the playota anil watch the pirates go correspondence southern notes the following from the pen of mr joseph beaumont who is holidaying in the southern states will be quite interesting to herald readers savanah ga jan 31 1839 there art many stories how this interesting quaint old city came by its name i prefer this one when the tndion chief toroachuchle came down th- irver to meet the english general oglethorpe in 1933 he brought with him his young daughter anna she fell out of the boat and all the accompanying braves began to shout save anna save anna and out of this grew the picturesque sa it was a great improvement upon the places previous nam of marthas ville i delightful city althbugh it is two early to see it at its best the cape jasmine and magnolia trees are in full bloom but savanah s crowning glory the azeaues are only just be ginning to bud i do not know if savanah is a re- llgous city or not but certainly every i opportunity is given for religious ob servance and with it all i see no- evidence of religious intolerance on my first walk i came to an imposing building stone steps massive pillars and an inscription jehovoe patrl fulo spuitiuque sancto surely this must be the church the door was ajar i went in a large pulpit fac ed me i came out and found it was the presbyterian church a bunding in the same style on the next street was the first baptist church this door was also open there was a small platform at what we would call the east end con ainlng two large lee terns they were beautifully carved latin crosses on one the bible rest ed and the other was evidently used for preaching from there was no mistaking the ro man catholic church and when i at last came to the episcopal church i was surprised to find that is was the one i had at first turned away from because it v as surmounted by an enormous plain gullded roman or latin cross from the altar orna ments i deducted that the church in savanah was very catholic minded although the lost sentence was written in the narrow sense i take it that savanah r5 a city and in religious convictions is also catholic minded but this is not true in rac al sense racial intolerance rife at least among the whites who are in imputation a minority of the feelings of the colored people i can form no opinion i like them i like thtlr manners i like their quiet coutreou service their soft voices when i told mj driver a white i vas from toronto he asked me what about the wolves up there i told him i d hcaid of bulls and bears on bay st b it not wolves and then 1 e wanted to know what was the deepest now i had cer seen he had never seen im here is the building in which it is claimed the first sunday school in the world was started b john wes ley it is now the episcopal christ church and the building in which john wesley preached is now called the john wesley hotel my drh er u ed a word one never hears in ontario tipsy georgia has had a turbulent his tory savanah claim to hae had the bloodiest battle of the revolutionary war it also suffered bitterly in the ciil war the pictures for shir ley temple s little rebel were tak tn here sherman s headquarters are still as tl cy were when he oc cupied them i have read many honor rolls of the great war but i like best to think of the whole south as it was before the civil war readers gone with the wind will recall major ahlej a slave owner writing to hit w lfe from the confederate army and so when i lie on my blanket and look up at the stars and i say what arc you fighting for i think of states rights and cotton and the darkies and the yankees whom we have been bred up to hate and i know none of these ts the reason why i am fighting instead i see twelve oaks and remember how the moon light slants across the white columns and the unearthly way the magnolias look opening under the moon and how the climbing roses make the side porch shady even at hottest noon and i see mother sewing there as she did when i was a little boy and i hear the darkles coming home across the fields at dusk tired and singing and ready for supper and the sound of the windlass as the buc et goes down into the cool well and there s the long view down the road to the river across the cotton lelds and the mist rising from the mttom lands in the twilight and that is why i am here who have no love of death or misery or glory and no hatred for anyone perhaps that is what is called patrlotlarn love of home and country but melanle it goes deper than that for melanle these things i have named are but the symbol of the thing for which i risk my life symbols of the kind of life i love for i am fighting for the old days theld ways i love so much but which i fear are now gone forever no matter how the die may fall for
