daughter men ajttjijm at his residence euchorn manitoba on thursday february 8 1m0 william chlsholm miller age 78 years son of theylaxe james and harriet miller of eaquesing m the passing of wullam chlsholm miller who died at his residence juk- bom man on thursday last feb ath the closing mark of an outstand ing chapter of life was made this wa thoroughly contributed- to by one of the most kindly upright christian gentleman it has ever been our pleas ure to associate with for the past three years our old friend has been confined to his home under strict medical care and through- out his illness his unbreakable faith and sturdy spirit buoyed him up his fiabit was not to co or murmur against his condition he bore his ailment stoically a it was always a happy visit for his many friends who called upon him almost dally he was born in old ontario sept 6th 1661 on lot 6 concession 11 es- queslng after pioneer day schooling be labored with his father and bro ther harvey until he arrived at the age of 20 when the call of the then north west came to him with no un certain appeal he took the advice oi his father and on sept 12th 1881 started on his first pilgrimage of the west with him at that time came joseph leslie and john cunningham pioneers of these parts who have long since passed to their reward they came west via chicago and st paul before steel had reached this far the adventures experienced by these upstanding young eastcners would nil book we were privileged to read a few incidents of the trip which in cluded one especial thrill that of tra velling 23 miles in a construction train which made the trip in 2 minutes over graded ties not properly fasten ed then there were the portaging thrills and the miles and miles tra- yaued on foot and with oxen mr millar met up with hit cousin the late alex fraser at oak river and eventually located a homestead in the beulah district sec s4u36 he re turned east later on hearing of the illness of his father who had died be fore he had arrived home return ing to his homestead he oomnleted bis duties in 1885 andfsaln returned east in 1887 mr miller came back to bran don and later went to great falls where he stayed until mr j broadley a cousin by marriage invited him to come to elkhorn to assist in the lum ber and general business here h worked here nine yean and was mar ried in 1885 to mabel dercy travis in 1888 he went with his wife and eldest son clarence died in the war to vancouver where he stayed until 1902 returning to accept a position in the hour mill which was run by the late prod travis from 1s06 to 1915 he farmed just north of own and lr 1918 entered the post offle as assist ant to the late a m frazer he con tinued here until 1929 when he was awarded the mall carrying contract in 1933 failing health led to his re tirement he is survived by his widow and two soils roy of bt paul minn ujs a and william frederick of bran don also one grandchild the runeral sevlce was conducted by rev caldwell in elkhorn united church on saturday feb 10th in the preserce of a large gathering of old lime friends and acquaintances it was to this institution that mr miller gave for many years such faith ful service on the board of stewards as an elder and as sunday school superintendent an office he held for 15 years many floral tributes bore silent tes umony of love and respect interment took place in elkhorn cemetery the pallbearers being messrs harry mc corklndale noble jones mooney sterling taken from the elkhom newspaper c of thanks mrs j tsregml and family wlsh to convey to their many friends and neighbours their sincere thanks for kindnesses and sympathy expressed during the sickness and death of a beloved husband and father also to specially thank the women s asso ciation of knox
