for the following interesting hockey story which we are sure will be read by local sport enthu siasts with great- deal of pleasure few towns ae small as- bolton can boast such splendid and consistent ho ckey dubs over a period of thirty years apart from rthls claim history reveals some unusual happenings lr the hockey whirl and none- seem stran ger today than the famous st fran cis game here on a saturday rdght in the month of january 1921 it seems the st francis club lost their way and kept the impatient spectators waiting until ten oclock for the start of the game the match was one of those old fashioned affairs with everyone taking a whack at everyone else feree steve voir had more than work cut out for him and penaltieb were often bert hedges the crack highdiver received a cut which took nine stitches to close the game lag ged on and the hour of midnight ar rived and still eight minutes were left to play then the unexpected hap pened with a perfectly good waltham turnip in one mitt and a sturdy ba ton in the other boltons chief of po lice william bell stepped on the ice and officially declared the game over no sunday hooliganism in bolton declared the officer st francis play ers and management raised a veritable storm of protest even questioning the correctness of the officers faithful chronometer to the time of which he had been faithfully and accurately blowing plummers whistle for two de cades with never a single protest in legard to accuracy no sir all the hockey players in north america could not budge the constable from his duty and the contravention of the lords day act was the last straw here was an end to such things the crowd left the arena and quietly and decently wtnt home to prepare for the morrow subsequently word from bill hewitts hotseat at the ojha headquarters justified and backed the constables ruling the game was ordered replay ed incidentally and perhaps w should have mentioned this earlier the home club was absorbing one ol those 6 3 losses when the game was halted some names which later became great in hockey appeared in that game on st francis were the following with the teams they were formerly identi fied with in brackets koster de la salle lynch dons farlow argos hooley smith granites grass pc hutston tcc bert hedges hill dons on the bolton team were bill phillips elywin elliott forest gould charlie norton rod mccut- cheon lyn gould walter mccutcheon and roger pilson from st francis we still hear of bert hedges as a ref eree and official harold farlow went to russia to introduce hockey and we believe is hack from the soviet year ago and they still cant play hockey which is no deflection on farlow lit tle hooley smith was destined to be come one of the sames greatest stars in the professional whirl and lastly we are informed lynch became a priest and li still widely known through his connection with the great st michaels juniors which he has coached and boosted in recent years cxangevulea junior c team haa been otflcialhr renamed orangevllle bhelburnc being a combination of players from the two towns george town fans will have a look at them on the 28th interest centres among junior fans on the game with the leagueleading bolton outfit which haa chalked up six victories in aa many starts this year were hoping for a win tomor row night and a good number f fans should be on hand to cheer the juni ors 1 we liked the admonition of ross appleford burlington timekeeper at the game last thursday get going now boys he said as a local and visit ing piayer finished their spell in the penalty box you know lyou cant play hookey in here but the burlington lad forgot the warning and once more graced the sideboards for another stay in the box fergus friends are following with interest the splendid comeback being made by wilfred bucko mcdonald says the fergus newsrecord bucko was born in fergus and made a name for himself with the toronto maple leafs last year he slowed in his ef forts and was sent to a minor team in providence chances for a come back came when two of the leaf de- fencemen were injured and since hi recall he has been playing a bangup game for the toronto team werewaiting bolton it seems that even in victory the vitriolic pen of the bolton enterprise sport scribe must lend itself to a little underhand work- in his writeup on last weeks junior fixture when bol ton emerged victors over georgetown in a 10 5 score he remarks the flashy redwings were never seriously threatened toy the halton- towners who have gathered a galaxy of stars from their neighbouring town of acton in order to annex a junior group title and further as the season pro gresses they will display the punch for which georgetown has always been famous it seems to this writer that the bol ton fans will get a big laugh at uielr own expense from this coming from a town which has long been notorious for imports in the hockey field we would advise the bolton squawker to do a little digging among the skele tons uv his own backyard for his own- edification too we might say that of the twelve players who made the bolton trip ten were bom and bred in the paper town marzo and papillon are acton boys and theres no law against them joining the local squad inasmuch as there is no hocke ln acton this year to refer to them as a galaxy of stars scarcely give credit to the ten local members of a hardworking team as for the georgetown punch we wont gp into that old story again fans who baiw the juniors in action against burlington last week noticed plenty of sparkle in the local team if thats the georgetown punch let see more of it in the future league standing oi1a intermediate b group 2 w l t 7 elora fergus i guelph georgetown milton preston 5 3 2 0 16 14 5 2 3 0 17 4 i 3 q 11
