the ontarioquebec division of the cwna the editors corner fame spreads in a recent article by raymond arthur davies which was reprinted in the herald mr davies spoke of the fame of hunters inn georgetowns unique eating place which was talked about by travellers fn all sec tions of canada and the states k c mcmillan who returned this week from a vacation jaunt to quebec tells us of meeting a tra veller who had sampled one of the hunters meals about three weeks before and still had pleasant recol lections of it the meeting occurred at henrys inn a similar type of place situated on no 2 highway at point aux1 rembles about thirty miles below the city of montreal while diriffig at henrys mr mcmillan was talking to a fellow traveller who remarked that he had eaten a splendid meal at an inn in ontario situated on the outskirts of a town that wouldnt be georgetown by any chance said mr mcmillan that was it said the traveller a place called the hunters inn for our part we remember eating at henrys three or four years ago when we were on a trip to quebec it was a delightful old french farm house and the dining room was merely one large room of the house with a long table in the centre set as if for a family supper guests were seated around the table in family style and one can easily see how guests would break down the barrier of unfamihanty and talk to one another as if they were old friends around such a home ly board the years have blurred our memory of the meal save that for desert one of the party asked for straw berries one for pie and another for cake and ice eream what was our surprise when the charming jeune fille of the house brought a heaping bowl of strawberries a pie and a cake to the table and we helped ourselves to as large a portion as we desired of the chosen dessert an ideal vacation listening to mr mcmillan s account of his trip our mind drifted pack to our two pleasant summers spent among the french people in trois pistoles this pretty village is situated 150 miles below quebec city on the highway which leads to the gaspe peninsula and is we believe a typical frenchcanadian town some day we intend to write a series of articles on our impressions of quebec gleaned hy living for four mon ths with a french family in this town meanwhile we would advise all who can to take a trip to quebec and see for themselves just what life is like among the inhabitants of this muchmaligned and seldomunderstood province it will be more than a pleasure jaunt it will be a real education for you to discover the customs and culture of our french cana dian brothers v what is it with everyone talking about v for victory these days we wonder how many of our readers know how the slogan originated according to the well informed christian science monitor the letter which is the first letter of the french word victoire was first used in belgium as a result of a bbc suggestion that some such idea should be spread throughout the world as a silent ally against hitlensm from belgium it quickly spread to france the letter began to appear on doors walls on nazi an nouncements and in every conceivable way as sym pathizing scribblers set to work later the morse code version of the v three short notes and a long was in corporated into the campaign theatre audiences clap ped in v tempo restaurant diners tapped out the v on tables and chairs j that the campaign had its effect was seen when germany tried to claim the v campaign as her own and announced over the nazi controlled radio that v stood for victory over britain salvage campaign for the duration mav we impress on our readers once more the fact that the lions salvage for victory drive is to be a continuous one uhich it is hoped will be supported by everyone in town and vicinity your donation in the salvage campaign involves no loss or out- ofpocket expense it means merely saving things which you used to throw away and burn paper magazines rags rubber metals which will be collected by the salvage truck sold to those who can make use of them and the money realized will be spent on war work by the club lions club members are willing to give their time to making the collection and sorting the scrap for sale they require the cooperation at each and every citizen to collecting scrap and keeping it neatly bundled in order to cut down sorting time at the central warehouse this is one place where children in town who want to do something jor canada s war effort can help this week we learned of three local boys william penson jimmy golden and ross boyle who heard on tbe canada carries on program how saving paper and magazines ooold help win the war the next day they toured the houses in their mlfljbborhood and collected papers and magazines which were stored in vtsnscbs barn where they will be picked up by tne lions salvage truck t trays intend to keep up this work and we hope other children in of the town will follow their example further
