this year in war savings certificates for the baby show the lome scots band will be at the fair grounds during the after noon to show the crowd how they have won so many prizes and why they are in such demand at functions in the district haacks midway is a new attraction this year and rides games and en tertainment are promised for both youngsters asn grown upe there will be a grand parade of it was with deep regret- that the glen community learned of the death on thursday evening sept 4th of annie elizabeth brennan dearly be loved wife of william james hill al though ill for the past few months and confined to her bed for the past seven weeks her death came as a se vere shook to her family and wide circle of friends the late mrs hill was born in stlttsville in the ottawa district 56 years ago but had lived the greater part of her life in glen williams she had been an active worker in the glen united church and bad served as vicepresident of the womens as sociation for a number of years surviving besides her husband are one ton eu of glen williams and grandson- bobby also three sisters and one brother mrs e marsden of woodstock mrs leonard f white of milton mrs irwin king of on the heritage of the british empire which was especially inspiring to all mrs william thirston buried in greenwood the remains of another former re sident of this district were borne to ihelr last resting place yesterday af ternoon when mabel drummond dearly beloved wife of william thir ston was buried in gerenwood ceme tery mrs thirston died very suddenly at her home 77 burndale avenue lans ing on saturday evening sept 6th bom in georgetown she had lived here and in stewarttown for a num ber of years before going to lansing sixteen or seventeen years ago while living in this district mrs thlrstons husband was in the decorating busi ness besides her husband she is survived by one daughter dorothy mrs r f warren of toronto and two sons earl and gordon both overseas with the rce and rca grant son ofthe lalemr and mrs c a grant of toronto were united in marriage on saturday sept 6th in st annes anglican church gladstone avenue toronto the church was beautifully decorated with gladioli town with his bro ther mr walter blehn he was en route to camp borden where lie will be stationed at the military hospital he is with the roamc with the rank of lieutenant dr blehn who is a graduate of the university df toronto was an eye ear nose and throat specialist in sarnia before enlisting for active ser vice he was a member of samlas council resigning this post on enlist- war victims fund approaching second milestone good neighbours club sale of victory vs help swell total this week 128 42 was the grand total of sub scriptions turned in last week to the heiald wai victims fund which is associated with the toronto evening telegram fund and the grand total now stands at 184511 good neighbours club a large donation of 90 00 was re ceived from the good neighbours clmo or ballinafad which represented proceeds from a euchre and danoe in ballinafad community hall on mon day evening sept 8th twenty tables of euchre were in play and mrs ray mcenery and mr alex mckay won top honours with mrs alex mckay and mr howard graham winning consolation prizes the lucky number draw for a quilt was won by mr j hughes of norval the draw was made by master joey isley after the euchre dancing was en- joyed with the wheelercheyne or chestra supplying old time and modern tunes for the dancer coffee and sandwiches were served by the ladles mr bill cheyne acted as floor man ager the good neighbours club was formed last may by eight ladies in the ballinafad district mrs myrtle logan mrs fred huggins mrs d j sinclair mrs henry isley mrs elma long- street mrs w s wright mrs archie mcenery and mrs robert klrkwood a similar event in may netted the sum of 7000 which was sent directly to the telegram bwv fund and the ladies are to be complimented on these two grand efforts to help british war victims victory w a few weeks ago h c mcclure local furniture agent and funeral di rector had an idea to help out the fund a number of v signs were printed on gummed paper by the her ald and offered free as a donation from this office mr moclure enlisted the support of e r magloughlen and ernie alcott and altogether 116 of these stickers were sold at 25c apiece and the sum of 29 00 turned over to the fund it is interesting to note that mr magloughlen who was again helping the fund made the initial donation of 5 00 last february which started oft our local effort children too the children of the community still continue as active workers for the war victims the georgetown trail ran gers collected and sold old papers and magazines and raised 642 last wed nesday night phyllis thanks job beard died in peterborough buried here last saturday mr job board for sixty years a re sident of stewarttown died in peter- boroush on thursday september 4th after an illness of eight weeks peterborough hospital the late mr board was born years ago in somersetshire e and was the youngest son of the late edmund and jane board he came to canada as a young man and spent most or his lire in the stewarttown district where he operated a farm he sold his propcrtv last year to dr o h best internationallyknown toron to scientist who purchased the farm for a summer home since then mr board had been living in kitchener with his sister mrs c j smith un til his illness when he went to peter borough he is survived by three sisters mrs ellen wallace of east selkirk mani toba mrs c j smith of kitchener and mrs robert erwln of george town and a brother fred of peter borough he wras a member of the chosen friends the funeral service was held on saturday at 230 pm from the home of his sister 1889 an induction service was held last night for rev charles o cochrane newlyappointed minister at knox presbyterian church georgetown and umehouse presbyterian church the- edict of induction was readjjy rev e foreman of toronto followed by an invooatlonal prayer rev s w hirtle of richmond huv gave the scripture reading from the lth chapter of john and followed with a prayer mrs fred shorull then sang a beautiful solo mr hirtle chose 15 john 4 for his mr foreman clerk of the presby tery related the steps leading up to the induction and the induction ser vice was then placed in the hands of the moderator of the presbytery rev a neil miller of brampton who call ed mr cochrane forward to become minister of his new charge as is the custom in the presbyterian church an address to the minister was given by revrosrfk cameron of dovercourt road presbyterian church toronto he stressed the importanoo of the mission work of the church and reminded the new nunlster that mora important than sermons was prayer which is after all the primary point in religion he recalled his days as young resident of georgetown and as a member of the church and spoke of the close association of the george town church and the older limehouse church which he hoped would always be under one minister rev charles camegy of streets- vllle addressed the congregation re minding them or certain points in the call to mr cochrane which they had signed the service closed with the congre gation singing the inspiring hymn the churchs one foundation a reception wras held afterwards in the church basement where mr and mrs cochrane were introduced to the members of the two churches mrs campbell sinclair and mrs james ross presided over the tea table which was attractively decorated with pink flowers and candles rev a n miller acted as chairman brief words of welcome were given by rev w g o thompson of st georges church of england rev r c todd of georgetown united church and mr w j l hampshire of boston presbyterian church mr cochranes brother judge a cochrane of brampton was present at the recep tion miss june frank organist at the church played a piano solo and vo cal solos were contributed by mrs francis thompson and mr kenneth bollard mr cochrane expressed his t- at the reception tendered himself and his wife and master gordon bird presented a lovely bouquet of flower from the congregation to mrs coc hrane mr and mrs cochrane come to georgetown from geraldton where they have spent the last two years in the geraldton and little long lao mission field where he was the first presbyterian minister in the field he obtained bis bachelor of arts degree from queens university kingston in 1936 and his theological degree from knox college toronto in 1939 he a a son of the late william cochrane and mrs cochrane of orilua he was bom in belleville and received hli high school education in orillla hta wife who is also a graduate of queens university is the daughter of rev a e cameron and mrs cameron of kingston they have a 17monthom son donald bryden it is interesting to note that mr cochranes grandfather the late rev dr wuuam cochrane dedicated knox church at the service which was held in 1888 an uncle rev dr r b cochrane is secretary of the board of missions of the united church and his bro ther rev dr a c cochrane la pastor of tillsonburg presbyterian church this week however the cup was finally carried to new quar ters when w g bell and em thompson who were definitely on sent the longtime holders under by a score of 3817 in twenty ends with the final end called off an account of ram a fresh challenge was made to the new holders by p b coffin and j w kennedy and the game took place last night but the challengers wen unsuccessful in their efforts and
