last editorial for the duration of the war for over two years since assuming editor ship of the herald we have striven to convey some of our own ideas and our own pet theories in this little cofner which belongs to us alone while in the remain ing pages we have chronicled the births and deaths marriages and social events accounts of meetings all those things which make up the everyday life of the people in this district now on the eve of departure a glance backward shows all the places we have failed all the things left undone which ought to have been done as the prayer tells us but too we have a feeling of pride in certain things accomplished two funds inaugurated which have met with generous response from our readers an active service column which re cords the doings of our boys in uniform and a complete list of men in service which we have spent many hours keeping uptodate and accurate we have done our best to encourage worth while things victory loan campaigns red cross drives recruiting appeals anything which will help canadas war effort now the time has come when we bow out of the picture for a spell to do our own small part in democracys struggles as one little cog in a mammoth wheel which shall one day roll over the axis dictators and crush forever their creed of blood and hate it is not easy to say goodbye to a job which has been an everpresent source of joy to exchange our present life as a civilian for the more restricted life ot soldier but we do only what thousands of other canadians have already done and if our little cog can frengthen the wheel in any way then we shall not feel that it has been in vain meanwhile as publisher we hall ever have in mind the welfare of this community to which one day we shall return by gods grace some thank yous no weekly newspaper is or can be the work of any one individual or any one group as a composite picture of the weekly happenings of the district there are many who help out along the way it would be impossible for your editor to record the limehouse news as fully and accurately as our correspondent mrs a w benton to tell what happens out ashgrove way like mrs frank ruddell or in stewarttown like mrs mary baily in ballinafad like mrs j p kirkwood in glen williams like mrs j r williams or in terra cotta like mr j r stringer to these faithful corres pondents we are grateful as well as to all the press se cretaries of various organizations and to the occasional senders of personols and news items which we other wise might miss then too our advertisers whose financial sup port makes this paper possible have been more than generous and we can only trust that our readers will not forget this when making purchases last but by no means least is our staff led by a good friend and an untiring worker in the person of mac mcgilvray whose advice and help to your editor has been invaluable in making the herald what it is no business can be successfully run without on efficient staff and that is one thing that has caused us no concern your new editor during our absence the editorial chair will be filled by our wife the first time that it woman has played this role in georgetown we hope that she may receive the some cooperation that we have received and that everyone will help out to make her job a little easier born and brought up in georgetown she needs no introduction to most of you those of you who dont know her we hope you will drop into the office and moke yourselves acquainted as you did when we were a stranger we know that she will do her best to give you a newspaper worth reading and in our ab sence we shall be proud to think that she is carrying on a job to which we shall one day return keep up with the news by reading the herald haltoa ceftutvativts elect
