you want him to havr it for christmas judging from the letter wr receive here the men over there will appreciate it twice as much lhi year for the food situation in the old country cant help having reached the stage where nearly all the frills and rxtrus which make eating a pleasure hove been cut out some of y ou however may feel your box of christmas treats u taking up valuable shipping space or maybe ex penses at home hove made the pocket hook too slim to stretch over the cost of sending a box in that case be ture you write him a good long letter have the kiddies write one too and enclose n christmas greeting card while youre at it the chriitmas card is another luxury which it is extremely d oubtful whether hell see in eng land this year and itll help add that touch of festivity o necessary at yulelide while were talking about letters wed like to say a word to the fighting men too remember its not going to be easy for the womenfolk to celebrate the age old family festival without your pre nce and you can help m ake those home fires a lot more cheery if you see that she has her christmas letter on time too georgetown is remembering her boys in the ser vices in a way that is indeed commendable the post office reports that the number of boxes sent by indiv iduals is keeping them pretty busy and the organizat ions in town have been doing their share too the leg- ion womens auxiliary sent thirlysix boxes overseas the local chapter of the io df sent i i ditty bags last week while the lome scots womens auxiliary have seen to it that their men will have a christmas treat by packing sixty three boxes brunch i 20 canad ian legion are nending a chrislmas treat to every legion man and every legion mans son of georgetown ond vicinity several of the churches have been busy pack- inn boxes for the men of their congregation who are over there the rehtknh lodge remembered the navy by sending in 6 ditty bags bags filled by var- ious clubs and organizations brouijht the total up to 25 perhaps the organization which had the most gigantic task was the soldiers comforts committee who are ending cigarettes to every man overseas hours of checking ond rechecking for correct addresses hove made a list of 190 names of men who will benefit from efforts of this committee there are probably even more organizations in town which ore doing the same work but which we havent heard about in any case we know the time effort and expense they are putting into these parcels will be re paid a hundredfold by the joy they will give to the men who are giving their all for us remembrance day today is remembrance day a day for remember ing those who fought ond died for us in the last great war a day too for remembering those who offered their lives but were spared there are still veterans of the last war who are unemployed or working on part time jows for scanty remuneration soon we will hove a new group of veterans to welcome home it is not too late to profit by past mistakes and lay some sensible plans for the future if one single veteran of this war comes home with a desire to work and finds the spectre of unemployment staring him in the face then the bat tle has been fought in vain a ration rumour a special bulletin from the ration division of the wartime prices and trade board asks us if weve heard the rumour about the woman who received a clothes rationing book by mistake from ottawa it is a fascinating story but its prevalence irritated the ration division because not only was there no such book in existence but the production of such a thing would be the work of many weeks and being modest people they have no wish to be credited with a job they siavent done so calling up the bloodhounds they set out to do a bit of sleuthing to find out how and where and why the rumour had been launched the search ended with a tearful woman who admitted that shed just heard about it and being soft hearted the sleuths gave up the chase on receiving her assurance that it was the last rumour shed ever repeat be warned rumours like this one are started mal iciously intentionally and founded on a deliberate he to listen to them and pass them on is
