the georgetown herald wednesday december 9th 1942 news parade the holiday season one can hardly rrulic that christmas i only about two wreus nwny we scrmrd to approach thr holiday koton so rapidly this year tint it v us upon us before we quite realize it this it probably due to thr war at in thru- strenuous timet wr are irtt forgetful of the sufferings of those in the war torn lands and do not like to miss a newscast for fear mr mill mist some im portant news which will brinp us closrr to thr rnd of thit trurftle and final victory at thr samr timr onrs mind it taken back to the realiration tluit this is thr fourth christmas since war was declarrd and that thrrc arr tome of our own georgetown and diatrict hos who hove been in the services jut thut ioiik and who have been wa from their homes for ai man cliristmusrs but what we riall intended this article to lx- was in connection with the preparation for thr pr at day of peace on earth good will toward men we know it will lr hard for many to nur am thr npirit of thr season this rar but wr must do so for thr children soke and for the sake of those lives we touch in our daily life so when ou r into the stores and ask for a num ber of articles which you arc told are out of stock dont get irritable for shoppinp in war time is one of rigid tests of character we must all be victory shoppers this year and be contented to celebrute christmas under emergency rules ond not to expect peacetime standards of service in other words do no grumble about our lot but go out with a thankful heart that we ore able to plan a joyous simple canadian christmas when the other half of the world is being torn by shot and shell street was grand for sled1ng the abundance of snow that fell a week ago and the cold wintry weather that prevailed throughout the entire week made grand sleding for the children the cold blasts of the west winds did not seem to halt the ac tivities of the younger set and many were seen with their bobs and sleighs and toboggans but one thing we dont like to see is the girls and boys sleighriding down the sidewalks and streets in the busy sections of the town yes it was great sport to zip from the monument to the mcgibbon corner on the ice but think of the tragedy that could have occurred had one of those sleighs carrying a little girl or boy crashed into a lamp standard or some other object or if a pedestrian should come in contact with a fast- moving bobsleigh georgetown is blessed with so many hills for winter sports that we think some other spot could be found for sledng except on the main thorough fares it is a dangerous practice that we think should be discouraged for safetys sake to the electors of ward iii i express my sincere thanks for your support in electing me a member of the incoming council i will endeavour to return your confidence placed in me by giving efficient service to the best of my ability thos l lyons l poetry i vl i ajt c lju ltk tuvtrjv ti usfr ctsw j lo
