whltaker of welland was a guest ot georgetown lions club at their dinner meeting in the mcolbbon house last monday introduced by lion chief leroy dale and district secretary bruce malcolm mr whltaker traced the growth ol lionism since it was founded in 191 by melville jones of chicago at present there are some 4500 clubs in 14 countries with total membership of almost 180 000 in canada there are 164 clubs each of them playing an important part in welfare and war work treasurer dick llcata of the local club presented the district oovernor witn a cheque for 100 00 as a dona tion to the lions british child war victims fund another interesting feature of the meeting was the pres entation to lion ralph loss of his past presidents button this was made b deputy district governor reg everett of has been serv ing in the mission schools in western canada for 10 years in indian work- tor six years in pile hills school sas katchewan for some ime she has been in charge of the sewing room there she spoke of the pioneers and their contact with vhe bd men the indians of tieir struggle to build ntw homes and their spirit of thanksglv ing when thty wert established of how their uiai kfulness o god influ enced the inolans ar d how at last the indians and white men joined in ser ices she gae a most though j til and l it res ling description of jie school and farm all the various buildn ga
