thanics many thanks to the ratepayers of ward 2 for entrusting to me the task of representing them on georgetown council for another term i shall continue to do my best for the ratepayers in general and to deal with the problems of ratepayers in my ward i clifford bradley ratepayers of ward i many thanks for extending me an acclamation i will give my best in future as in the past very sincerely william p thompson georgetown november 27 1944 to ward iii citizens of georgetown ladies and gentlemen first let me say that i am glad that there will be an election in w 3 since it seems we have to have an election anyway after all when you did me the honour of electing me as one of your representatives last year it was on the understanding that it wbs for one year and only one year the year has almost passed the bird of time has but a little way to flutter and the bird la on the win it seems to me that the ratepayers must find it rather difficult on the scant information that is available to them to decide whether bhe sitting councillor should be reelected or no pot this reason i append a schedule showing motions made in council by me and how i voted on some of the more important ques tions as they appear in the minutes of the meetings 1 moved by s w orr that the tax rate be set at 40 mills on the dollar carried there was considerable discussion on this question some councillors being of tihe opinion that a 43 or 44 mill rate was the lowest the town could get by on without incurring a costly overdraft at the bank as it happens we finished the year with a surplus 2 moved by s w orr that application be made to the provincial treasurer to open a provincial savings office in georgetown carried iwlth all due regard for the manager and staff of tbe local bank who are doing a remarkable job under war time conditions i still ualnsr that we are entitled to at least two banks i am still working on thlsv ft and i intend to continue to work on it as long as i am a member ot the council 3 moved by s w orr that the discount on prepay ment of taxes be cut from 3 to 12 after some discussion 2 was agreed upon notice that a discount of 3 on prepaid taxes actuallj cost the town oer 10 on all taxes prepaid this amounted to a considerable s im and became a direct charge against the ratepayers in general it seemed grossly unfair to me that ratepayers who could afford to prepay their taxes in one lump sum should ave over lof at the expei se of other ratepayers who are not so fortunately situated of course there were many othr que tions of a minor nature for which i and i hae no space here but which i shall be glad to dlscjss with an ratepayer at any- time cauj24 so ladies and gentlemen on the above record i come before you for reelection thanking you in advance for any assistance you give me i am yours sincerely s w orr c your vote and influence are respectfully solicited for s w orr as councillor for ward m vote monday december 4lh 9am to 7pm at municipal building
