06uncluorb mcguvray brad ley lyons orrand thompson present several items of routine yearend business were dealt with including the psssms ol the usual 500 grant to the t who brigade and instructions to the r ttown clerk to pay any bills received np to the yearend upon the authori sation of the finance committee new ttown employee mr alfred collins was hired as a permanent town employee at a wage sate ol 60c per hour h l huu waited on council and requested that ashes collected with the garbage be dumped as a fill into his property in order to create a proper town road at no cost some work was done on this last winter and mr hutt believed that couple of months this winter would ornish the job the matter was left with chief marshall and the work wfll be done tinder his supervision streets to be flenched the council decided to hire mr art scott to do necessary ploughing of snow on the streets at a charge of 3 an hour it was also decided to parohase a quantity ol snow fence to be placed on papermul row to stop the roadway from drifting this win ter street sanding will be done by bob lane it was decided to proclaim december 26th a boxing day holiday acting on a request from the retail division of the board of trade cr mcguvray suggested thai some coat racks be in stalled in the municipal building for the convenience of public gatherings and this will be done some discussion took place on the purchase of a town truck and while no definite decisions were reached it was decided to apply for a purchase permit from the oil controllers of fice so that if and when council de cides to purchase one the preliminary work will have been done there was also an informal discus sion about sidewalk shovelling by tf citizens cr orr wondered if a one- horse plow could not be procured as in some towns and enquiries will be made along this line the council thought that citizens should be re minded of their individual duty in keeping their sidewalks cleaned off after a snowstorm the overseas for three years bill arrived home at 8 oclock sunday morning and like the other boys who have re turned is exceedingly glad tp be with his wife and parents again bill has been serving in sicily and italy since a year ago last september and during that time saw several boys from georgetown including bert tuck donmcpbau ab reeves eddie hill and steve emmerson for the past two and a half years he and tbny tapleton have been together enlisting originally with the rce in june 1940 bui later transferred to the army service corps he trained at petawawa peterboro arid the ha milton trades school before embark ing for overseas prior to enlistment pte ritchie was employed with the georgetown hydro power commission howard may hosl wardens dinner monday fjo james jones home from overseas flying officer james jones over seas for a year and a half as a puot with the rcaf returned home last monday- morning his wife the for mer olive macdonald met him at the union station in toronto and they will visit his parents mr and mrs j w jones of mimico formerly of acton for a few days before coming to georgetown his homecoming came as a complete surprise to his wife and parents when they received a telegram from him on saturday morning when he landed f0 jones enlisted in the rcaf in august 1041 and will be home lor thirty days aris column dee 1115 1844 by joan main on monday dec 11th the school had the privilege of listening to an interesting and informative lecture by mr r h spenser of the public in formation department of the bell telephone company he was intro duced by mr w o mlsener district manager of the bell after the talk he was thanked by craig alex ander on behalf of the school the pupils then had a chance to listen to their voices recorded on the mlrro- phone we are now in the midst of examin ations they were planned to allow the main street merchants to have the services of the high school studehfet for the christmas rush as soon a possible and at the same time give sufficient time for review after com mencement the high school is planning a school party to be held at the rose room on thursday evening exstudents and friends are invited many attend babies branch party lorne scots reunion in italy gathering from their scattered posts throughout the canadian corps the lome scots rallied in a town along the adriatic front for their first re gimental gettogether in their many months of campaigning in italy dis persed as is no other regiment the scots provide a defense company un der major stewart beatty brampton for corps headquarters defence pla toons for the headquarters of an infantry division and the various bri gade headquarters of the corps the program included a church ser vice a march past in which the sa lute was taken by the corps com mander a special appearance of the armysoldier cwac show funborn follies and informal gatherings of thessergesnts and officers of the re giment the pipe bond of the sea- forth when sgt kenneth g murray and miss constance logan were married the bride is the daugh ter of mrs edith logan and the late prank logan of aldershot and sgt murray is the son of sgtmajor and mrs j c murray of stewarttown sgt murray has been in england since june 1943 with the lome scots hornby sudden death of baby son saddens norval home a nerval borne was saddened last week when william earl age 8 months and 3 days son of mr and mrs earl grasby passed away on thursday dec 14th in toronto sick childrens hospital after a very short illness besides his parents he is survived by four sisters and eventually see a county assessor ap pointed he pointed out the steps that present and past councils had taken in reforestation and hoped this work would be continued in future following his speech a presentation of a chair was made to the warden by norman craig on behalf of the 1944 county council guests from this district who at tended the dinner included harold cleave leroy dale j humphreys and geese see yousaturday december 23 babies branch of st georges w was held in the basement of tile church on wednesday afternoon dec 13th with thirtyfive little helper and their mothers and in some in stances their grandmothers in at tendance they were addressed by archdeacon thompson who welcom ed them and said grace before tiiey sat down to a delicious tea served from tables most beautifully and tur- tingly decorated witfi snow people of all kinds after tea they all gathered round the christmas tree which was ladened with lovely toys for each baby boy and baby girl sixty five in all mrs s dewhurst secretary of the babies branch members of the wa and other church friends had a busy time seeing that one and all had a most enjoyable party an operetta christmas with the old woman who lived in the shoe and work selections given by the different grades from their readers and from the bible this last was a very fine demonstration of the new course in religious education introduced into the schools of ontario this year the children all showed careful training by their teacher and the music instruc tor mrs clements and excellent memories even the very little ones santa claus was also present to un- locd the tree and distribute the gifts to the happy recipients the school room was tastily decorated for t he occasion yes we got our share of the big snowstorm last tuesday it came is a great surprise so parly in the season the navplows were not ready foi work and the roads are sull none too rood for motor traffic well those halton childrens i w have been singing of their drcam- atd society formed lr of a white christmas will surely have their di cams fulfilled this year proceedings were taken at a meet- christmas services will be held in lng in milton that will dissolve the tie local churches next sundny let present peel and halton childrens everyone plan to attenn aid society and formulate a halton j childrens aid society the two coun- ties will act independently in this work when the arrangements are com- peletd mr amos mason acton was chosen president of the new society and rev j b moore of milton vicepresident mr o f tnompaon is secretary miss e andersani treasurer the halton board is made up of sixteen members two representatives from each of the ave towns one from each township and two re from county council the first board comprises the fol-
