candidate for halton county in the next federal election mr nicholson was chosen as the of ficial candidate at- a convention held in milton town ball last saturday two other candidates were nomin ated at the meeting major j amott early of georgetown and mr wes beatfcy of acton the latter withdrew his name before the balloting and in the twoman election the burling ton candidate drew a larger vote than major early who then moved that mr nicholson be unanimously chosen as candidate duncan mccallum of nelson town ship president of the halton county progressiveconservauve association was fhnirxtinn for the meeting and introduced the guest speaker hon earl rowe mj for dufferin and simcoe counties the glorious record of our fighting men and the splendid efforts of our war workers have been embarrassed and shamefully prejudiced by the pro crastination and political expediency of the dominion government said mr rowe in his opening remarks it has been the wait and see slo gan of the hon mr mackenzie kings that has kept 60000 men out of war and out of production while young and less trained men died abroad and old and tired men have tolled in theli places at home he said it was this same wait and see policy that prompted me king to fool and humiliate even his own fol lowers by saying immediately after lecelving an overwhelming favorable mandate for conscription that it only meant conscription if necessary but not necessarily conscription while on january 31 we must close the last session of this parliament we must now wait and see what hap pens in the north grey election letter tpr bob eason wounded overseas word was received last thursday by his sister mrs r h mitchell that tpr bob eaaon had been slightly wounded in action in italy the na ture of his wounds was not given in the telegram from ottawa tpr eason went overseas with the lome scots in june 1941 and has emce been transferred to the princess louise dragoons he has been in italy for the past six months and just recently was released from hospi tal where he had been suffering from malaria he was an employee of provincial paper coating division prior to enlistment his friends in town are hoping for good news of his condition in the near future pte george latimer son of donald itimer and the late mrs latimer pte george b latimer was reported killed in action in italy before christmas born and educated m georgetown he was 18 years old enlis with the lome scots he went overseas in april 1943 was later transferred to the irish regiment of canada and had been in italy since last october yesterday mr latimer received a comforting let ter fom the padre of the nnlt with whloh george had served he spoke of bis fine reeordas a sold ier and said that he had been in stantly killed by enemy small arms fire while waiting with bis com pany to attack an enemy posi he was laid to rest in a cemetery at viuanova seven miles from ravenna mrs frank sykes heads church organization the daughters of the church st georges held their annual meeting on monday night at the home of the retiring president mrs thos eason jr a successful year in 1944 was reported with the sum of 190 raised and donated to the church and its various organizations in addition to this a ditty bag was oiled and donat ed to the navy league and two quilts were given to the same organization officers for 1945 are as was received this week that james louth popular young george town airman who lost his life in a raid over germany an january 21st 1944 was commissioned a pilot offi cer just prior to the casualty the
