present a deputation of practically all re- aidente on king st in the clay pro ducts district waited on council in regard to the smoke nuisance caused by smoke from the kilns at george town clay products ltd the deputa tion had appeared before the town p an several previous occasions the town had taken action against the company about three years ago and a decision was handed down hi court in favour of the company the residents of that district are still not satisfied with this decision and are pressing the council umoostlnto the matter further the were of the opinion that the clay product co had taken no step onl their own ac count to try and lessen t smoke nuis ance which was not only annoying but waa lowering the value of their pro perty council felt that while they appre ciated having this industry m town they did not feel that the duaeus in that district should be subjected to this smoke nuisance and they would do all in their power to have this re medied if the company did not co operate in the matter k m langdon presented a plan on behalf of mr and mrs billiard oatrander and asking council to ap prove the opening up of a stavdtvlsion of 16 building lots to be known as oatrander boulevard the ostranders have given the town some ten eleven feet along durham to widen the roadway to a required width and the town would be c to buod a roadway through the centre of the boulevard and supply the necessary conveniences such as light and water when the lots were built on council appreciated the fact that these were suitable lots and that in all probability would be bajlt on shortly aa tfale would mean extra revenue to the town in taxation the plan was given ap proval by bylaw the town solicitor suggested that a bylaw also be prepared in hiring the engineer to make the compiled map of the town and this was done the contract was let to mr p e bow- quclpfa at a cost of 1500 00 again prime minister it is expected that it will take two years to complete the map which will then be registered a number of hospital accounts were dealt with and the clerk instructed to contact the parties concerned regard to payment a letter from the liquor control board of ontario gave the towns share of the liquor authority tax as 375 96 the reeve asked tor the council s opinion toward a county assessor so that he might report to the county council at their next meeting it the unanlmious opinion that we tain the same system of assessing as m the past assessor w o marshall will attend the assessors convention to be held in niagara falls this week considerable discussion centered around the resurfacing of queen st since the last council meeting the sewage engineer had changed his plans in regard to the sewers on queen st should his plans require the sewer to come down the centre of queen st if was felt that the road should not be resurfaced some members of coiin ell felt that sewage might be two or thre- yeara away yet and that some thing should be done at once it wax however left over until further word could be obtained from the sewage en slneer the waterworks supt reported that the new water line in the park which is being built to supply water at the grandstand and cattle pens was progressing nicely the erection of a new rail fence in the park will also be made shortly council felt that we have a park to proud of and that some i were in line the matter of repairs to the old town hall was also brought up es pecially the repairing or removing of the bell tower which one councillor auggested a good wind would blow over council were more or less agreed to make repairs if labor could be found to do the job the iode were given permission to bold a tag day on june 23d the girls pipe band allowed to hold a carnival on main 8t on june
