association and ths ontartoquebec dtvliot of the cwjia mary h biehn editor hirold davison the editors corner a georgetown athletic association interest is growing in the formation of the geor getown athletic association which is to be inaugurated at a father and son social next week three meetings have already been held to discuss plans for the organi zation with another scheduled for tomorrow night and there have been many excellent suggestions put forth the organization while interested in all youth activities will at first be concerned with athletics with hockey first on this seasons agenda we can all recall the grand job thatgord alcott did a few years back wih hockey among the youngsters in town and it will be the aim of the organization to emulate this in this connection georgetown is fortunate in having a tie up with the toronto maple leafs in the person of bob goldham who only a few years ago was one of the youngsters who learned their hockey in the local rink bobs advice and help we know will be freely given for as a professional he has not lost his interest in ama teur sport and loves the game whether it is played by stanley cup experts or a bunch of the kids from john street last summer saw a revival of interest in so ft ball and hardball among the young men in town and here too the association will be able to provide equipment and coaching to encourage participation tennis neg lected during the war years will be due for a revival f and basketball a relatively unknown winter sport here is something which we hope to see introduced track and field events boxing and wrestling tumbling and even horse shoe pitching are just a few of the sports which could be fostered by the organization to say nothing of canada s national sport lacrosse which is popular in norval brampton and other neighbouring centres the question of installing artificial ice in the arena is one which has come up for discussion as well as gymnasium facilities either in the arena or in another suitable location the success of such an all inclusive athletic pro gram hinges we feel on the idea of a full time sports director as outlined in this column last week the association executive will have to be a group who are wtlhng to devote their time and energy to organization work and it will be the duty of a sports director or sup erintendent of athletics to encourage every young per son to take an interest in sport see that proper coach ing is given and equipment available and encourage the public to attend games financing will of course take a prominent place in the picture and the opinion so far is that one dollar membership tickets could be sold to individuals and oifeociiite mmlxr ships at higher fea to industries and ciubs gdt rcejpt8 would make that georgetown citi zens are interested in bringing their town up to date dtid providing sanitary disposal of a wag i jihi w ek s vo e was much more decisive than even the most fer vent advocates of a disposal systt m could have hoped for 618 voters roughly half the voting population registered a seven to one opinion in favour and coun cil should now feel free tp immediately make the neces sary arrangements for work to start next spring that former citizens are interested too was shown by a phone call received last saturday morning from mr a nornngton of dundas who had just read the results in the herald and said he wanted to con gratulatc the town on this forward step dont fail this time in the next few weeks we will be called upon once more to loan our money in a victory loan number does not threaten our national bfe and when peace ume goods are coming rapidly back on the market the importance of the loan is easy to explain we still have a large army navy and airforce to maintain and bring home from overseas rehabilitation grants runn ing into tens of millions of dollars wounded and in alided veterans to care for food and clothing to sup ply to europeans and credits to be given to britain to aid in restoring her damaged buildings and providing food for her people georgetown district has had a proud record tn the past oversubscribed in every war loan to date will we
