accompanied by deputy district governor ed oapps of brampton paid an official visit to georgetown lions club at their din ner meeting in the mcgibbon house monday night speaking on a lions challege he dealt with the work of ltanlam in helping to recon struct a world at peace and said the ideology of uonlsm was the key world peace and should be spread to all countries he urged lions to sup port the program of renting tempor ary accommodation to veterans until the housing shortage is eased lion jack armstrong reporting on the results of the three amateur shows sponsored by the club said they wert brides parents after which the young couple left on a honeymoon trip to montreal on their return they will reside in toronto the bride is a recent gra duate of st joseph s hospital school of nursing in london rev arthur dayfoot arrives safely innwencrtu the friends of rev arthur dayfoot will be interested and glad to know that word of his safe arrival at his destination ohengtu west china on october 8th has been received by his parents mr and mrs c b dayfoot of victoria b c a graduate of geor getown high school and the universi ty of toronto mr dayfoot left can ada last december for this united church mission field but owing to difficulties of transportation and re striction on civilian entry into china he was delayed ino south africa and india and since august in chungking since he left town his father has sold the dayfoot shoe company which with his brother mr harry dayfoot he was so long associated and mr and mrs dayfoot are now living in victoria bc cedarvale the stewarttown last week the wa meeting last week a quilting was held at mrs rallys home mrs willett had the misfortune on saturday to fall down the cellar steps she received a severe shaking up but fortunately no bones were broken mr wayne of toronto was the min ister for sunday at hornby norval and stewarttown he was entertain ed by mr and mrs greenwood mrs eleanor greenwood of toron to spent the week end with mr and mrs greenwood mr and mrs p r bally and dawn visited with mrs bally sunday congratulations to eleanor smith who was winner of the first prise of s2s0o in the senior group for tap dancing at last week mrs greenwood is also offering her home for the annual meeting of the wjv this week on thursday when reports of the years work will be given sun shine bags presented and election of officers mr howard kentner presi dent of the men s club was boastmas- ter and called on a number of the members for informal speeches later euchre was played mrs e duncan and mr george c brown holding high night some 75 of the young lads in town were on hand to get their contract forms which will allow them to participate in the sport this winter ah ambitious program has been drawn up by the georgetown recrs ational council for the season in an effort to give every lad regardless of his age or proficiency in hockey a chance to enjoy the sport a midget nhl team numbering six teams will take their names from the big league hockey clubs and sweaters and sox in the n hi colors have been or dered there will be five teams of georgetown and district players and a sixth entry from norval under the sponsorship of that villages recrea tional association sparked by rev len self and joe stamp our baas- ball sports columnist of last summer eligible for midget hockey are all boys who were 15 or under on nov ember lstjjjmhis year a sogam homeandiiome schedule will be played with four teams competing semltfinals for a twoteam off in order to get around the problem of eight and ten year olds being overwhelmed by the bigger lads 14 and 16 it is proposed to have oneups varying according to age in other words when a 15 year old line up is on the ice for the maple leafs the oanadlens coach would ice his lineup of 15year olds to balance tfmt two teams the juveniles with age limit 19 and under will have a house leagu of four teams with an allstar outfit be ing chosen for oh a competition arrangements have been made with the boardof parks management for the use of the arena saturday morn ings and one night a week for mid gets and one night for juveniles the nights depending on what sche dule may be drawn up for an inter mediate cha entry from george- town the whole program is under the di rection of the qjios hockey com mittee composed of jim sargent jack brill and ah sykes a tmmbar of hockey players have been approa ched to act as coaches for the teams and the council is finding the best of cooperation in their efforts to see that every youngster is given a chanos to enjoy a game of hockey at the meeting last friday contract forms were given to all the boys pre sent to be signed by them and their parents and returned to the commit tee a boy who wants to play in the league is asked to make nve pledgee that he will not smoke or drink wll be in bed by 1030 pm will show honest endeavour in his school woifc will be a good sport at all times and will assume meetings in the municipal bulki ng and is making an appeal for funds to purchase more instruments and music for the boys waiting to join the profit the committee points out will be realized in good
