self with the omagh literary society and sons of temperance becoming an expert debater this led him into pub lic life he was elected as councillor of trafalgar township in 1806 serving in tills capacity for several years later being elected reeve and again elected as warden for halton count in 191s he was elected by tne ufo party to the ontario legislature by county but unselfishly gave his seat to hon e c drury who became on tarlos premier soon after he contes ted in the federal election and then retired from political life giving up public hfe he did not re linquish bis activities in his church life when a boy he connected him self with tne church of his parents lie omagh methodist cburch becom tag sunday school teacher and later superintendent upon the closing of this church in 1906 he and his family joined up with bethel methodist cburch transferring his interest to that sunday school and church work in 1015 on decision ol that congrega tion to build a new church home he was chosen chairman of the building committee until the church debt was paid in 1025 bethel became a united church and he was elected its firs elder which office he held until his death during the
