president childrens aid the annual meeting of the haltpn county childrens aid society was held on monday april 29 in st pauls church milton president a mason of acton was chairman for the evening he called upon rev a w posbury to open the meeting with prayer president masors welcomed the members of the society to the meetmg and slated that he was pleased to see such a ltfrge turnout of members and those interested in child welfare by motion the board of directors were given- power to sign the necessary docunientfi as required by the bank another motion was passed upon re commendation of the board of dlrec- tirs authorizing the- board to give a niember of the board authority to sign cheques along with the treasurer in stead of having the annual meeting make the appointment a nominating board was appointed consisting of rev g w porter mrs m nixon and mr wm deans miss edna anderson gave the trea surer report which was adopted miss anderson was complimented upon the very efficient and courteous manner in which she gives attention to her du ties mr g f thompson superintendent gave a very complete rcsuume of the work carried en by the society during the pas year he pointed out a num ber of difficulties encountered th look ing after he societys work mr thompson introduced mr and mrs hutt of acton who for the past year have been operating a reception home for the children children when they are taken over by the society are tak en to this home and cared for until such time as the case is disposed of and the chlldien restored to their par ents or placed in other homes miss marjorie dawson favored the meeting with two lovely solos which were much appreciate rev g w porter pastor of st pauls church introduced the guest speaker of the evening mr b beaymont mr beaumont is presently director of the childrens division provincial department of public welfare he sta ted that he felt there never was as much interest in child welfare as now he recommended the superintendents report for the member6 consideration he also stated that if we expect to ha ve a better world we must start wh the children too many people do not take the responsibilities of the home seriously due to various causes if we are going to do the job we must give heavily of our time but it was worth it mr beaumont stated that the super intendent must have time to develop inteixswin the society and new mem bers must be brought along so that they can take their places as members of the board of directors childrens aid is not charity but is an investment in the men and women of the future and any time or money given is a good investment for vhe good of the country is an insurance that the children will have an opportunity of growing up as good citizens af the comnumlty and help themlead useful lives you never tear down the work given to child it goes on and on and keeps building up over a period of years mrs weaver moved a vote of thanks to the speaker for the splendid addres also the
