by g h the 66 question is who took the best fish after the recent storm those who were lucky enough to ar rive at a good spot shortly after must aaive had good luck opinions differ as to whether lightning and thunder scare fish for some time afterwards our opinion is that it does at the time but they soon recover this is based on the fact that we have had good catches over a period of years right after electric storms these were taken several different spots such as williams lake beaver river credit river big eastern river at huntsvllle and other smaller streams brown trout the brown trout are very hard to take owing to the warm water our opinion is that a brown will survive in water at 70 degrees where a brook trout will not however we don t think he ukes it any better the results are that be sulks and hides in a cool place tiirough the day s heat and feeds late at night and early in the morning flies should be used at these times for best results and minnows worms and other baits with fine leaders attached through the day a heavier leader should be used at night as one cant see to play him carefully bass some nice black bass have been ta ken at acton recently when it comes to sport bass can provide plenty of it when the evening rise is on they will strike everything from baby mice to a bucktail and that takes in a lot of lures we have found that bass strike just as well in early morning when hooked he does everything but hit tile moon some of the best bass fishing is found in georgian bay if one knows uie right spots these fish are in wonderful condition owing to the deep cool water lake trout chris christiansen and art scott took some nice fish from georgian bay and lake simcoe opinions dif f er as to whether this is fair sport but we say yes as anyone will tell you who has taken a few big ones when a large one breaks water 40 or 50 yards behind the boat after be ing reeled in from a depth of 160 or 200 feet its a great sight to see his sil ver sides flashing in the sun he still has a good chance of gaining freedom i if the line is slackened for an instant enjoy summer jfruite in winter heard dominion day broadcast in england t was a thrill for a former george town man vivian williamson when he tuned in his radio in kngtnd on dominion day and heard the announ cer say we will now take you to the park in georgetown ontario to bear part of the celebration hi an ontario small town mr williamson told about hearing the program in a letter sent last week to bis uncle and aunt mr and mrs william miliar in town and said it remlned him of his child hood days here when he played in the park born in england he came here when a boy with bis mother got bis school- fruits and vegetables properly home canned now will help make the firmly meal more appetizing next winter this home economist of the consumer section dominion department of agriculture is one of a staff tint tests various methods of homo canning booklets on homo canning are available free from the dominion department of agriculture ottawa when he is safe in the boat you really have something to take home and what a delicious flavour these fresh lake trout have the smith brothers at georgian beach just out of meaford know all the hot spots around their part of the bay a good time is had by all and good catches are the order of the day when one goes trolling with them their boats are large and will stand heavy water angtera and hunters club as a result of a meeting of sports men in the park last sunday evening it was decided to proceed with the formation of a club to be known as the halton anglers and hunters asso ciation dues were set at 1 00 on motion of arthur herbert and cyril brandford and nine persons were nominated as a committee which will meet to choose a president secretary and treasurer h d darraugh of orangevlue who is president of the dufferin northern peel anglers and hunters association was kind enough to come down and give a talk on how
