column wecandoit some of our citizens seem to have doubts that we can raise enough money in town by public subscrip tion to finance the gift of a 30 victory bond to each of our returned servicemen and women admittedly it is a lot of money to raise being close to the fifteen thousand dollar mark and yet we have confidence that the good people of the town will dig deep during the war we heard a lot of talk especially around victory joan time- about the most we can lend is the least we ten do and never was so much owed by so many to o few we heard of the sacrifices that the best of our young manhood was making and we were conscious of the fact that if the war were not to end in victory for the allies that our money ana property would be of little use to us now comes a chance to say thank you in a tangible way and not pay mere lip service to the young people who came back and to those who were not so fortunate no campaign for funds should be necessary it should be a freewill offering from the people of the community a token of their respect and gratitude for services rendered teen town blossoms out if anyone doubts what can be done with a small amount of money and a lot of elbow grease just take a walk up the hill to the old town hall and see what a change has been made in this old building which had fallen into disrepair through the neglect of years we can remember what a sorry sight it presented when re creational director hal newman invited us to look over its possibilities last spring when the town council gave the recreational council permission to make use of it for teentown activities it was dirty and tumbledown a refuge for the pigeon population of the town win dows broken plaster off and broken stage sets where local and visiting artists had once performed now under the watchful eye of mr newman the hall is regaining semblance of its former dignity pjgeons have been evicted plaster repaired the walls p and the accumulated dirt removed and the hall makes a firstrate place for teen agers to gather and all this has been accomplished with a very minor amount of money added to the hard work of the young people this winter the council is putting in two oil heaters in order that the hall can be used as a recrea tional centre all year round they are also purchasing a piano and hope to have such equipment as pingpong tables and other indoor recreational equipment for this some donations are necessary and this is an open invitation for public spirited citizens to donate a few dollars to help out the town pays the directors salary but money other than this must be raised elsewhere will you help a wonderful fair this weeks edition of the herald is a special in honour of the centennial fair on saturday which was a milestone in the many years of
