our young people do we want to preserve our plde by being able tc say we have a geor getown high school no natter what the variety and quality of course i of fered by that school or do we want to provide the bes courses of secondary school education that are jtosslcle under the condllons likely to prevail during the next 20 hart tht kind of school that is possible tht variety of courses the per cent of the populatloi u its irta the population of the n rth llalton district including georgetown is between 1000 and 13000 and would providt an enrolment of about 400 hlh scliool pupib putting george town population at 3000 or mort oeortetown alone could provid ai ii rolmtnt of 100 pupils for a high school kiumt 300 pupils for the area school without georgetown which condition provides our education 4 mills is just what it cosu georgetown now for high scliool purposes if georgeywn remains out uie balance or the area will probably have to raise 4 jns for high school purposes under the area school the department of ed ucation pays 75 per cent of the cost if georgetown stands alone it will be necessary soon to build a new school and with the maximum enrolment possidi georgetown ratepayers w have to carry much more than the per cent as under the area plan because the proportion paid by gov ernment is limited to a maximum amount per pupil oan we axford to maintain a geor getown high school which will pro vide the range variety and quality of education our young people deserve 1 am opposed to building an area high school out in the open country awiy from all conveniences necessi ties and amerlties the board if it decides so to build will in my op inion meet with very serious obstacles to the successful operation of such chool however milton school area is now dissolved acton milton lsqueslng and nassagaweya are new in an area high school district if georgetown stays out the school will ibnost certainly be built at speyslde if we enter the area we may have sufficient influence to bring the school into the outskirts of george town in any case i do not believe that tlie georgetown high school board and town council alone should ac cept responsibility for such a serious arreaching decision a ratepayers meeting should be arranged at which ill relevant facts and fitrures could be presented and the decision to enter or remain outside the north haltnn hlght school area could be registered later by a general vote of those qual tfied with the above ideas in mind and with a responsibility for legislating on behalf of the whole county as well as for georgetown and with the con vtctlon that municipalities inv i ed were doing the wise thing for them selves in asking for the creation of a district high school area i voted for ihe b law creating the area so far i can see no reason for changing my opinion or my vote if you mr editor require any as surance on the matter please accept mine for what you may consider worth that the representatives of every other municipality in ha ton county are jutt as good as but no better than georgetown s in strencth of character clarity of opinion deci sion faltti m their municipality s fu ture and their
