saturday when the recreational council in cooperation with glad- atone ac of toronto present their ionawaited dhow feature of the flay is the thirtymile interna tional silver relay with six teams tlelng for the honours high and public schools throughout the coun ty will also compete in special clas ses while there are several open events among outside competitors will be the brown twins the p rt rtli ir social and personal 101st annual georgetown fair scores another successful event although skies threatened rain over 5000 people crowded park wonderful hall display drew much attention harness races big event horse show good cattle classes down but show a second best on record dianne schenk ani gail stjoger take honours in baby show card of thanks we would like to express our deep appreciation to the many friends whose kindness flowers and expres tons of empathy were so helpful st tbe time of our bereavement the louth family the esquesing agricultural society scored another big success on satur day when over 5000 fair goers crow ded into the georgetown park to witness the 101st annual show spon sored by this organisation the at tendance was almost on a par with the record breaking show of last year and was certainly encouraging to the directors who had worked so hard to plan this event for the peo pie of georgetown and district hot only were the directors encour aged in their efforts by the attend ance but many new exhibitors aval led themselves of the opportunity to show both ir the hall and on the grounds however the peak is not reached here and they are looking forward to meeting many more new friends at their show in 1948 the hall exh bit was probably one of the highlights fair never before has this display looked better to the public eye it eatured the work of the rural and urban school chldren ladies work domestic science and displays bv georgetown umehouse norvai dublin ashgrove and hornby institute branches classes for flow ers and vegetables were somewhat de pleted from other years but it is hop ed more growers can be interested in the future tre norval junior far mer grain she made its usual good showing apd the arts and crafts pot tery modelling was a big attraction in the hall sponsored by the junior farmers the oa c had an exhibit on animal husbandry to interest the farmer while the dominion govern ment exhibit had its usual ftoe dts play wht is travelling the larger fairs on the western ontario circuit not for a number of years has jierc been so rrany horses m the harness classes with eight in the 228 and nine in ne classified race com petition was ken and racing fans would see no better racing anywhere an unfortunate accident occurred in the first heat when doc hesrop of milton was thrown from his sulky hi a spill on the turn and suffered se veral cracked ribs which eliminated him from further competition the road races we e also outstanding with stan somerviues horses from wal demar edging those of les wright and dr poster the leggette brotiiers of oshawa bobbie 10 david 9 and billie 7 show ed themselves top notch riders and got a great hand from the crowd in their appearances on the track the also showed the r skill in pony jump ing shwing in the carriage and road ster classes in front of the trend stand were dr e poster of gait r ken- a son of acton les j wright of lis towel stan sommerville of waldemar matt macdougau of erin and j a mckay and ken mcmillan of georgetown a number of saddle horses were also present with riders from aldershot watkerton brampton and acton wreford hewson of mai ton had his fine string of heavies here direct from the cne and was the main exhibitor in this class oth er heavy horses were owned by e f armstrong and ft reid son geor getown and miss s cochenour of waterdown due probably to the threatening weather and chc lack of stabling at the fair grounds the cattle exhibit iwas down in quantity but the high quality noted for georgetown exhlbl lo petroha band entertained en route to lindsay the petrolla white rose band made a stoo in georgetown hut wednesday enroute to lindsay pair where they were one of the feature- attractions mr and mrs walter mendham assisted by neighbours had arranged to cater for supper and had a tasty meal ready for the 43 members of the party which was served in the garden guests at the supper were mayor joseph
