band grant get large majority voters do not favour general council election ward 8 traditional election cen tre in municipal elections was the only ward to vote on monday for council and voting was heavy with 480 voters casting ballots of an es timated six hundred qualified vot ers the same three men contested the two council seats as last yeax and once again cr james goodie led the polls with 225 second place was extremely close and ray whit- mee scored a fourvote victory over cr thos l lyons with 198 to 194 last year the results were goodlet 234 lyons 196 whitmee 128 while council school trustees and hydr6 commissioner were else where elected by acclamation all voters had the opportunity of vot ing on three important questions rat little interest in these was shown in wards 1 and 2 only 54 casting ballots in ward l and 72 in ward 2 there are 424 and 775 re gistered in the voters list in the wards majority approval of granting 1200 annually to the band and forming a board of education was expressed electing councillors by general vote rathern than wards had a slight majority in ward 3 but was defeated by opposition vote in the other wards garage operators elect new branch of the garage operators association held their annual meeting and election of offucers for 1948 at a dinner meeting in the nelson township hail on thursday december 4th seventy members and guests from toronto hamilton and guelph were present the president james waumeley welcomed the members and guests the ladies of the community served n excellent chicken dinner hollowed by a vast array of their famous pies the head table gueste were intro duced by bui bafllie provincial di rector from hamilton len mc- kindley introduced the guest spea ker of the evening hr gordon btt- ton president of toronto branch mr hilton held toe undivided at tention of the entire meeting for thirty minutes while he delivered an informative address on the value of salesmanship m it applied to the garage trade mr btfton being an outstanding automotive parts sale sman his address was well prepared and delivered in a manner m which every man could digest its context harry doughty manager of brit ish american motors toronto thanked the branch on behalf of the members from toronto and wi shed the branch future success provincial treasurer jim robertson presented a brief outline of the fi nancial setup of the organisation pointing out that an increase in fees has been necessary in order to render better service to the mem bership ed yvadhara obliged the meeting by telling a few of his hu morous stories george davis chairman of the hamilton gasoline committee gave an outline of the industrial standards schedules as they apply to the gasoline trade and stated that despite some adverse criticism the trade as a whole was solidly behind the program ed wadham conducted the el ection of officers mr fred sin clair chairman of the nominating committee presented a slate of of ficers as no nominations were re ceived from the floor this slate was elected without voting the offi cers elected for 1948 are as fol lows president laurie mannell oak- ville vice pros lke lynn burling ton known to all who knew her as grandma mrs angus mcarthur passed peacefully away last week in her 100th year the last of the family of the late aaron and leah wheeler mrs mcarthur had been bedfast since last january her lo ving qualities patience and true friendship endeared her to many friends in the cedarvale communi ty always a faithful church wor ker she had been a member of the old erin centre church and in la ter years of the enn church of christ predeceased twenteight years ago by her husband she leaves a family of four daughters and two sons mrs j o martin vineland mrs herb keeler and mrs arthur griffin erin mrs burt davidson acton and howard and william mcarthur erin one brother aar on wheeler and one sister mrs smart predeceased her the funeral service was held on sunday from the succumbed to a heart attack which he suffered last friday night december 5th born seventyone years ago in bathurst township lanark county he was the son of the late wil liam cameron and caroline
