performance of his duties for the past twentythree years and said he deeply regretted the resig nation of one who has held the key position of municipal government and whose honesty and ability have been above reproach mr harri sons advice had always been help ful to him as a council member and he said it was going to be difficult to fill his shoes each member of council rose in turn and expressedfaimilar thoughts reeve maclaren saying he thought it fitting that a suitable recognition of regret be placed on the minute book and a motion to this effect was made by himself and deputy- reeve jack armstrong mr harrison will relinquish the office sometime in the new year having indicated his willingness to stay on the job until another man is hired and to assist the new man in becoming familiar with the posi tion in view of the decision of k m langdon to retire this year from the position of tax collector coun cil members favoured combining this office with the clerktreasurer and a motion was made by crs goodlet and herbert to advertise for applications for the joint posi tion- the job wul cany a 2000 yearly salary and applications will be accepted by the sponsorship of the un ited church choir the ionic male choir of brampton provided a treat for music lovers last wednesday when they presented a concert in the united church the choir is directed by mr w e capps and their repertoire included both clas sical and popular songs in group and solo work edward townsend was brick plant superintendent for many years superintendent of the halton brick company plant at terra cotta edward townsend died at his home in norval on sun day december 7th at the age of 77 he was the son of the late john townsend and margaret stringer and was born on a farm at terra cotta where he attended school after farming for a few years he sold the farm and took a position with thekbrick company where worked until his retirement in 1986 when he moved to norval mr townsend was prominent church work and when he lived in terra cotta hewas an elder of un ion presbyterian church and for many years was superintendent of the sunday school since moving to norval he had served as an elder at norval presbyterian church he is survived by his wife the former ellen d mclean of erin whom he married in 1904 two chil dren william e townsend mrs oliver hunter margaret
