nowspnpors aodociatlons and the ontario quebec division ol the cwna the editors corner high school status quo earlier hopes that the new high school district might start operation this fall wereoptimistic the time element was too short and it looks now as if the present arrangement will prevail ifntil a year this september with most of the district students going to school in milton and acton while georgetown will official ly join the district in january we do not suppose that anything can be done at that time to bring students to their closest geographical school as it would be not only a disruption of time tables and bus routes but would be bad for individual students to change teachers in mid term sr t there will be therefore no appreciable change in numbers in the ghs student body this year the teach ing staff remains the same as last year as does the cur- riculum and the full commercial specialist course will again be offered along with the usual academic courses one change which will be welcomed by the students is the decorating and new lighting which has been done during the summer and it isto be hqped that the district board after georgetown joins the district will continue the improvement program which the board of education has inaugurated a little money spent each year can soon put the high school building in good shape again and unless something revolution ary happens in the district we can see no hope for one central high school for some years to come inventions a recent feature article in life magazine told of a professional inventor dr slumboehrh by name who makes a comfprtable living in the states by developing new ideas to a certain stage thtn selling tliem to large companies while he branches into another idea or two putting our inventive genius to work we have come up with a new twist which dr slumboehm or anyone else can have for the asking it is adishmaking machine which would be along the same principle as the linotype in a newspaper office the linotype produces material for a newspaper by casting a line on a metal slug which can later be melted down and the metal used over again the dish machine would work in the same way producing dishes which after use could be thrown in fhe meltingpot aseries of different molds would be available for different sizes and types of dishes and the super deluxe machines could have devices for emboss ing patterns and for odd shapes and sizes it would revolutionize the kitchen not only eliminating dish washing but doing away with expensive builtin cup boards and saving space what material would be used thats up to dr slumboehm all we have is the idea just in case you think that inventive genius stops with jne invention here are a couple more which we picked at random one idea comes from watching the new gadget which is an improvemnt on the stereoscope of fathers day the new machine projects a roll of pictures in third dimension and is a big hit with the chil dren our idea is to do away wth buying pictures for the b ar instead project pictures into a blank frame on the wall this gives endless variety an easy change when you change the colour scheme of a room and such variations as a special series of snappy shots when the man of the house entertains his poker cronies another invention fell by the wayside when we found that there was already on the market a bumper for whitewalled tires nothing daunted we remembered a home we once visited where expensive slip covers on a chesterfield were covered with cheaper ones for every day use so why not slip covers for whitewalled tires pot pourri quite the best showered couple in some time were the newlyweds who left for their honeymoon on a saturday bus the sidewalk in front of the bus term inal at caldwells was still knee deep in confetti in the evening nice to report that ed francigwho has been in sunnybrook hospital for some time ismat ing a good recovery he was able to spend a few clayst in town last week and expects to he home in september for some time reeve jack armstrong has prom- ised to write a guest editorial when the editor is on vac ation in september and threatens to plaice it an editor ial predicament last week after advertising a newsreer of the libns convention which featuredthe girls pipe band ernie found when the reel arrived that it was hot the one with the band and- the only convention shot was one of the new president being inaugurated he putafljgn in the lobby of the roxand also had some explaining to do in person to a fewmoviegoers whohacl pme specially to see the band
