accomplished the trip in his own words leaving georgetown at 230 pm the 1st september we drove 1000 miles to the ozarks of oklahoma by goo pm the 2nd september driving all night and day not feeling ns tired as one mighi expect having naps in the jcar en route we drove all that night and the following day through texas and new mexico arriving in phoenix arizona sunday night the 4th september having com pleted 2100 miles after spending 3 days with relatives in yuma arizona on the border of mexico which was visited mr califor- j nia we drove to san diego on the 8th september and visited the na val station viewing aircraft car riers battleships etc that night we headed for los angeles stop ping at laguna beach for the night on friday thc 0th september we entered los angeles and spent the day til hollywood seeing all the spots made famous by the stars an impressive sight was the pan oramic view of los angeles by j night from sunset strip the mil- j lions of lights spread out like a carpel as far the eye oould see saturday the 10th september we drove to las vegas nevada where big time gambling from roulette throw dice faro and blackjack to bingo is legal and most popular evidence of their profits are the elaborately furnished and decora ted hotels and gambling resorts which even the movies fail to am plify enough we left las vegas in time to see boulder dam before dark and then while illuminated that night was spent in kingman arizona and sunday we drove around the grand canyon which defies description feeling that the most interesting sights were be- hind we settled down for the re- turn trip and again drove two nights and two days arriving in i chicago tuesday night tlie 131b septeinlkt from there to de- iroii look a dy and after a night 1 in detroit we ilnvc home on the mth tin- members uf georgetown girls pipe rand were thrilled to find themselves mentioned in an article in the tjeptember issur ot chjkiaine magazine not that the baud is unaccustomed to publicity after their appearances at such spectacles as the lions convention in philadelphia and new yorkchy and hi a huge scottish show in de troit but it was the fact that they were mentioned in the same sentence with such professionals as the mart kenncy orchestra jim my shields the leslie bell singers and howard cable the article in question was a plea for the use of canadian talent in the grandstand performance at the exhibition to replace the imported americdn shows featuring olsen and john son and mentioned these and oth ers as samples of canadian tolent which could be used it would be only fitting to see our local girls uppearing in canadas biggvst show after being roceiveti so well in their hundreds of appearances throughout ontario and the states saturday was moving day for councillor and mrs cecil david son and they are now occupying their attractive white clapboard bungalow just completed by hawcs nelson on albert st mr and mrs jack king and baby axe liv ing in their former united church ss hall on monday evening and wit- 1 nessed the presentation of tho boy j scout charter to the 1st george- 1 town group and the investiture of accounting auditing bookkeeping service e m news this week is apple day it was a success beyond our expecta tions wc feel that tl was a success from the potn of view of cooper ation citizens of the district re sponded in a wonderful manner to the earnest and tireless efforts of cubs and sccuts 22 bushels of apples and 2000 tags were used in the days work and a total of 240 was rained for the promotion of scouting in georgetown thanks to the loyol supporters of scout ing those who purchased our apples the merchants who aided in advertising messrs mclaugh lin wilson and hepburn for tho apple bargains a thatoken a japanese coin was found in the box of cub paul mackcnzlo and scout ted middlc- tolf these two boys will receive a special award tho token was placed by a man who was unac qualntcd with the boys scout j buck and cub francis hulme received the highest amount of contributions during the day these too will receive a special award the days work was so wel done y all cuba and scouts that it is inst certain that the
