air iny views at this time regarding a number of incidents which are of vital interest to the people ot our town there in a definite foellng of dissatisfaction on the part of the ratepayers- in particular because they are the ones who have u bear hie heavy lond of taxation thrust upon them by unwise spctidlng ouncillors this town has chang ed to remarklible degree in the short lime of about five years frorq a happy prosperoim town where everyone from the mayor to the local- cops bill marshall and hill emmerson it was something iike a big happy family i left georgetown for war work in 1043 i came buekagain in december 1047 but instead of the happy fam ily atmosphere we founcl discon tent and jealousy ingteadvjf the friendly hand cold disapproval of i anyone who dared- to have other i views than thoie entertained by j people who wanted to make geor- j gctown grow in other word little boys in long pants i yes georgetown was like a bunch of schoolboys with the j growing pains true we must grow the sewerage was a dire necessity but having splurged to that stag gering amount it wab time to stop look and listen as far as any un due expenditure was concerned i am hcortily in accord with the ratepayers association regarding hhe cleansing and repairing of the old reservoir if the meters were installed to save water they sure ly have defeated their own purpose since more than one of them dev eloped very bad leaks it seems we- have plunged so far in debt hat every possible means of rais- ng money from our taxpayers has been thought of we get n ticket tor overparking a ticket lor park ing in the wrong spot etc etc we cant even have a motorcycle race here without those who attend get- ling tickets for infraction of the law we created a building- bylaw makkiages s but if you this nature should be handled at the proper place municipal offices not at his home when we create officers such as this we should at least make provision of a desk or a box to receive applications ttlr building licenses half of our conn- cillors including the building in spector himself do no undcrstnnd the meaning of the bylaw a building bylaw has its place nd may be a good thing but it vos most unfair at a time when many veterans returning from overseas were desperately in need of housing where oh where was our prom- ifc to do all we could for the re turned man most of them were liv ing in one or two rooms with rela tives would h not have been bet ter to set up a committee to help such of them who hod the ambition o buy a lot and build yes even a tworoom cottage that they could rail home but we in our smug complacency could not entertain such thoughts as tworoom cot tages it was up to the men who fought for us to vote on that ques tion the handful of men wc place in office have no right to decide all these questions without con sulting the people who put them there lasl august we ordered a sign which was not delivered till sep tember not knowing the date it vould arrive from toronto we could not apply for a permit on its arrival we had trouble locating the inspector who flatly refused to come to inspect it aftey much per suasion by the toronto firm how ever the inspection was made and permit granted as the sign was wmc distance from the doorway our company gave us a little mar ker indicating location one week inter wc had the inspector once ugain demanding in no uncertain terms that wc get another permit yc approached members of the council declaring this was utterly ridiculous but to no avail hence we were forced to make applica tion once again for permit after i day or so the application was re turned it was unnecessary is it any wonder we the people of georgetown arc fed up when we vote let us make sure the men we put n council are there not because they want the pay it provides but because they have the good of the- town at heart- we want men with level heads to guide us jealousy and spite nor wise cracking scatterbrains have no place on our council let iiu choose sant ho nest- togood nei men who are loyal to georgetown and its people not men who think only of how much they can get out of the job but how much they can save you and me a
