auxiliary public school to take care of increase enrolm for which there will be no roo in potpourri the herald had a tough day last wednesday sev- e adv forced t pt luting of the present school building the public schopl board has done an excellent job of presenting the facts to the ratepayers in a series of advertisements the last of which appears in this issuer copies of these three advertisements have been mailed to all voters whose names appear on the list there is no excuse for any voter not to be aware of the question a record v ore should be polled on mori- day on this important question it is a fortunate coincidence that when the new school debentures are issued present debentures for the old waterworks system and wartime housing which total approximately the same amount will be retired this means that there will be no rise in tax rate caused by the building of th sc the school board has pointed out that should a new school not be built it will be necessan to provide some tjpe of accommodation in other buildings considerable expense would be en tailed if this had to be done on which no goernment grant would be paid and eventualk a new school would still hae to be built for a school cannot function indefinitely if its classrooms arc scattered in various parts of the tow n there is no question in our mind of the answer we intend to ote es on monday we hope that the majority of ratepayers will be of the same mind a town is only as progressive as its educational svstem and we must continue to give the best that can be pro vided faith in our town the opening of another department at silvers the second large addition at the store in the last three years shows that sid silver is one merchant who has confi dence in georgetowns future we doubt if there is a town in ontario which can boast any larger depart ment store than silvers the growth of the store is another of those success stories which occur in cana dian merchandising history there are still many citi zens who can recall the day mr h silver first came to georgetown and drove a horse and wagon selling mer chandise from door to door he later opened a small tore at the southern end of main street then built the nucleus of the present building with a later addition behind since illness forced his retirement the business has continued to grow and under the guidance of his son sid the premises has been more than doubled and the staff greatly increased silvers is a credit to the town not only is their merchandising ability of the best but the family has always been one of the first to enrol when any matter of public concern needs a help ing hand the world can do with more such people two extra pages at the last minute and publication htld to be delayed until thursday morning there was a day when we would have jammed the ads in and left out a quantity of news but in our efforts to produce a good newspaper we prefer when such a situation oc- curs to hold up publication for a few hours and get in aa much of the weeks news as possible one gets unanticipated reactions when something like this occurs one subscriber on a rural route phoned when the paper did not arrive and after we had explained the situation said she was glad to know that it was our fault because she always blamed the mailman yhen mail didnttarrive another subscriber came irvto pay for his paper- saying- that when it did not come on thursday he thought he had been cut off for non-pap- ment this week at time of writng it jooksas ifjhe same things might happen again as a public service we are printing the voters list for next mondays elec tion which takes up about a page there seems no end ofnewaantfadvert also seems t b usual we hope that ournew listings of summer re sorts and vacation spots will be of value to readers they are found under one heading this week editor dills who publishes both the acton and milton papers is back on the job after a spell of illness in
