school board a motion by john bell and nelson picketr proposed that new school be built at georgetown and a gymnasium be addled too th milton school- the motion came late in the meet ing and was tabled for a special meeting next tuesday at stewart town when it will be discussed and voted upon high school teachers further salary increases teachers in the three north hal ton high schools leeeived a further salary increase at a board meeting in acton monday all teachers were given an in crease of 100 retroactive to the iirst of the year and a 100 increase in september previously the tea chers had veceived 200 at the start of the year and an increase in year ly increment from llu to 200 the salary schedule was adjusted to provide a maximum of 5000 for specialists principals of the for georgetown plan dedication of new church organ work will be completed this week on the installation of a new organ in knox presbyterian church decision to purchase the new instrument was made at a congre gational meeting early this spring when it was found that the old or gan was completely useless with out a thorough overhauling a committee was formed to look into the purchase of a new organ university of toronto expects to open a practice about june 1st renovations are being made at present to the office on main street over the bell telephone office where dr f r watson prac ticed for so many years until he moved his office to his residence a few years ago dr kerby will receive his degree of doctor of dental surgery at con vocation on june 6th graduating with him is his brother dr wil liam kerby who will practice in heglna saskatchewan dr kerby was born in toronto moved to regina with his family and attended public and high school there he learned to play hockey at an early age and as a youngster was centre on a pee- wee all star team which won the provincial bantam championship he played intercollegiate hotkey while at tending central collegiate and when ho was with- abbot juveniles he attended the new york rangers hockey school in winnipeg with a chance to go on to one of the club farm teams it was here that the difficult decision of hockey or den tistry as a career had to be made he chose the latter and during his college term had to trade his play ers uniform for a seat as a specta tor he is the son of mr and mrs g r kerby and his father who is commercial supervisor for cnr tel egraphs was moved back to toronto a few years ago keen curler bowley fred thompson dies an enthusiastic sportsman and a leading member of the local curling and lawn bowling clubs fred c thompson died at his home on edith street last saturday evening mr thompson was a member of a pioneer esquesing family he was born on the family homestead lot 29 concession 11 esquesing in 1887 a son of the late joseph triller thompson and maria gallaher at tended no is school and farmed with his father later taking over management of the farm for which the thompson family had the cro deed and had farmed for 121 years he married agnes leslie on janu ary nd 1895 the farm was sold to the late mr martin in 1932 mr thompson contin uing as farm manager for two years before he moved to georgetown a a township resident he served as a councillor for five years in the early twenties was an elder and held other offices in union presby terian church and for forty yeara was a member of the school board of no 15 in georgetown he be longed to knox church and was an elder of the church v mr thompson was the last sur viving member of a family of four he was predeceased by two brottw ers brother rev dr j a armstrong of denver colorado jdr armstrong and his wife had just returned from a visit with their son and family in monrovia california when he suffered a stroke while in canada he taught school at boston mills and mayfield then entered the ministry and graduated from knox college toronto in 1900 he preached the word of god until five years ago when he re tired in colorado he id
