meadow glen growers ltd georgetown telephone 143w this week just for a change we would like to start this column off with a little bit about the educational services being offered byrrovincial command there are a number of competitive scholar ships open for children of veteran belonging to the legion these scholarships are excellent ones em- bodying several features hot usual in run-ofrthe-mul- scholarships one of the best features is that they are allinclusive and include cost of board and lodging as well as tuitions and- bcfoks if tjiere is any merqber interested the complete brief is beside the guest book in the legion rooms or information can be supplied py the writer or the secretary f in new york this weekend will be comrade and mrs bill ron- ey who are flying there irom malton tomorrow for a holiday in celebration of their wedding anni- versa ry in case anyone is interested the monthly notice that went out this week was only the first one but already we have had a lot of favourable comments on it from the members in time it can be come bigger as the branch and the activities increase- we will try to send it out a few days before each meeting so there will be no alibis for not knowing about the meeting everyone can help by handing in any information that they- think should be included at a later date we hope to institute a dues statement as well so each member will know where they stand re payment of dues we hear that the boxing on the television last wednesday night featured one of the best bouts to date another highlight last week was the milton berle show which featured some of the finest singing weve heard in a long time this feature is beginning to attract art even larger number of members on each succeeding week wonder how any of the pas sengers down for standing room only would make out if they did stand all the way f dont forget tne ball game in the park next sunday afternoon at i 00 pm this is the opener in town for our team and lets see a lot of legion members out there to see the boys play theres nothing more discouraging than a ball team playing to only a handful of people last mondav another in the ser ies of card parties was held the boys have been getting a good at tendance at these and creating a lot of interest the sports comniittee tell us that due to the ensuing ball season and the approach of summer weather next mondays euchre will be the final one until the fall we think all the participants have en joyed these parties and the prizes too and are looking forward to their being carried on in the fall the main interest now seems to be jn the dart tournament that is underway at present there seem to be quite a lot competing for the prizes that are being offered darts has always been one of the main recreational features of the branch and attracts the members in droves be it summer or winter in this connection we hear a couple of the boys are thinking of starting clas ses to make dart- players out of some of those shooting at darts no we wont give any names that would be advertising and we would have to chargefor it last wednesday nights ses sion of binjjo was evidently really ix sweltering one the dont know of one industry that isnt working that day a familiak face around the legion is missing these- days with jim dickenson now in kingston we believe with a dept of highways surveying crew jim is missed around the branch by all the boys someone made the suggestion to the sports committee about get ting some rubber horseshoes and having indoor horseshoes this might be ok too anyway the boys will look into it and we can imagine that if the idea has merit they will get it organized we understand from the john labatt representative that his firm has a very good man available for an evenings entejrtainment and that the branch can get him for an ev ening providing we give lots of notice a number of the members who have heard him a couple of times at ss union parties at par adise gardens guarantee he is one of the best entertainers they have heard so we think that the branch will probably want to have him here some time in the future the imperials had their reg ular monthly meeting on
