ns newcastles disease discovered in halton an outbreak of newcastle dis ease in two of haltons largest poul try- flocks was discovered a few weeks ago this is a highly infec- tioiis disease of poultry which de- rives its name from the city ot newcastle england where the dis ease was firsldentified since that time the disease has been found in many parts of the world and in some areas has been accompanied by a mortality of 90 per cent or over- at the present time newcas tle disease is stated to exist in ev- ecy state in the union being an infectious disease it comes in con tagious piseases act administered by the health of animals branch of the canada dept of agriculture it is our understanding that since the recent outbreak in ontario six teen flocks in ontario have been quarantined once the disease is confirmed prompt action is taken to have all birds on the premises destroyed and premises placed un der quarantine and the cleansing and disinfection of the premises are promptly dealt with when poultry are destroyed for newcastle disease the owner is compensated in case of the two halton flocks where the outbreak occurred the chicks had been purchased from a strat ford hatchery needless to say the authorities of the health of animals branch immediately dealt with the hatchery in question prior to the history of trouble in the stratford hatchery ontario was free from
