mrs george muckart and her daughter miss shirley muckart entertained at a miscellaneous shower last thuisday evening in honour of miss violet barnes a brideelect of this month thirty- five friends were present mrs stewart magwood and dau ghter beverle jane of sussex n b are visiting in town with her sister mis yvonne adams dr magwood whose father has been ill at his farm near hanover is spending the month with him there and will assist in the farm work stone school teacher at grimsby next year honouring mrs mary e latcqsrw who is leaving her teaching posi tion at the stone school school pu pils and their parents gathered at the home of mr and mrs edgar beeney on the sixth line on thurs- day afternoon mrs laidlaw has taught at the school since the first of this year and has proven her qualities as a teacher and a friend of every child and parent she has accepted a pos ition in her home town of grimsby the pupils after expressing their regret at losing a good teacher pre sented her with a bird book and a book on flowers mrs laidlaw re plied in her usual kind and con vincing manner and said she had liked their school and enjoyed teaching them mr and mrs laid law have a lovely home on no 8 highway at grisby known as the spinning wheel miss marjorie shaw of arthur will take charge of the school in september she graduated from stratford normal school in 1946 and had taught at s s no 2 west gara- fraxa at the shand dam near fer gus since that time the picnic place is an historic spot in the school section where the ri ver tumbles over the falls and con tinues splashing for several hundred feet down over the rocks at this spot once stood a sawmill which served the early settlers and was powered by water from the falls some portions of the mill still re main the stone school receives its water supply from j spring nearby and is taken about a mile by pipe line into the school the old mill the bridge across the nvei the water tumbling over the rocks and the general hospital on thurs day june 28th in his 87th year he had been in failing health fox the past three months he was a spn of the late gilbert sinclair an rachel mclean the family moved to esqueslng when he was a child and settled on the property which is now farmed by his son gorman fiftyeight years ago in april he married flora ann mcnabb who predeceased him and they farmed in erin township they returned to the home farm 35 years ago mr sinclair was a member of balllnafad united church he was a strong supporter of the liberal party in past years he served as a school trustee on the board of clay hill school he is survived by a family of six sons and five daughters gilbert a of acton mrs dan mckechnle bessie j fred donald and nor man glen williams gear of mil ton mrs ray
