adopted a permit sytem for district students planning to attend other schools and for stud ents from outside the district who attend any of the three high schools in the district at a board meeting in stewart- town on monday a resolution was passed which denies financial re sponsibility for any north halton student who attends an outside school unless permission has been gi ven to this student by the board theschool board pays tuition costs for students who take courses which are nof offered in north halton these are mainly 6f a technical nature or for those who are not accessible to one of the three schools but are accessible to an outside school at trie same time the board has adopted a firm attitude regarding outside students who- attend north halton schools for the same reas ons up to the present there has been much confusion at the end of the year when other districts have been billed for student costs two years ago this resulted in a law suit against the oalcville trafalgar board and this year there has been trouble with burlingtonnelson the board decided that if no permit has been received from his home school board by november 1st permission to attend school here will have to be denied an outside student ending a dispute between bur lington and north halton the board agreed to accept 864 as full pay ment for nelson students attending milton school in 1950 and to waive a claim for their tuition for the first six months of 1951 burling ton had advised the board early this year that they would not pay such a bill bus drivers have all signed con tracts for the next school year and the transportation committee has mapped out bus routes in prepara tion for school opening in septem ber it is planned this year to have a bus go into eden mills to pick up students who might other wise ko to guelph applications of ft students to at tend guelph were approved and three applications were turned down students given permission were donald mclean alan and de partment of education has offered- courses foe- girls at the ontario athletic training camp on lake couchiching under the directorship of mr j e mccutcheon univer sity of toronto and miss gladys woldnrck parry sound the camp nurse it is considered a great honour to be chosen as school representa tive for this camp that offers a sig nificant contribution in leadership training for schools and communi ties throughout the province a carefully planned schedule en ables the girls both to develop their leadership ability and to value the privilege of living and cooperating with girls from all parts of ontario in addition to the basic instruction given in such varied activities as basketball volleyball speed ba ik badminton tennis archery golf track and field swimming and square dancing training in the art of public speaking is an important feature as all activities progress the girls havp cvepy oppdrfunfty of referee- ing coaching teaching planning and running tournaments track and swim meets and square dance par ties in addition the leaders coun cil takes complete charge of all chapel services presides over clos ing banquet ceremonies assigns camp administration duties and en forces disciplinary measures for any breaches of camp regulations in these ways the girls are being trained to assist in school or com munity recreation programs also by experiencing the joys of teaching and by learning to cooperate with others they are receiving a valuable character training which may help them to be better citizens with high ideals this years camp student from georgetown eileen oates put her training to jood use when she be came a director of the stayathfome camp sponsored by the lions club and the ministerial association dur ing the last two weeks in july as a mark of her two weeks course at lake couchiching eileen was the proud recipient of her dis tinctive honour crest at the closing banquet presented to all girls who worthily discharged their responsi
