weather exhibitors and crowd combined for a perfect day paid admissions totalled 2985 sec ond only to the 1946 centennial year horses took the spotlight as usual in front of the grandstand where mel barden hillsburgh won the gentlemens road race with entries owned by a b weber plac ing second and third and john ham- iton fergus fourth mrs ken mc millan was top lady driver pony races snared the spotlight with bro thers howard and russell duncan dundalk and raymond st jean brampton in the prize money mcgowans pet and novelty show did pat draw the anticipated num ber of entries but the crowd enjoy ed seeing those who did prize-win- ners here included ann tucker best dressed dog lynda cuth- bert doll gail mcguvray decor ated bicycle joan bundle doll carriage terrence hancock comic exhibit the girs pipe band played dur ing the afternoon and also held their draw for a trip to bermuda the winner was a former resident mrs george ferry who now lives in toronto many farm machinery dealers family was ultimately con- necujfj with the early history of georgetown was buried in green wood cemetery here last friday af ter a funeral service at the mcclure funeral home mr bingham died in- notre dame hospital north bat- tleford sauk on september 8th he was born near georgetown 74 years ago a son of the late william p bingham and elizabeth mccui- lough he attended blue mountain school and after his schooling he worked with his father in the stone quarries like many other young ontario men the west called and in 1909 he settled at cut knife sask where he operated a farm on april 3rd 1922 he married min erva allen in winnipeg mr bingham took an active part in community affairs and served on the cut knife municipal council and as a trustee on the wardenvllle school board of late years his eye sight has failed he had a great in terest in his home town and a few months ago composed a letter tell ing something of the early days which it was the heralds privilege to reproduce he is survived by his wife anj one son w l bingham of cut knife one granddaughter beryl marie bingham and three sisters mrs k e woodward cut knife mrs j r rogers barrie and mrs mclaughlin toronto he was board also ran a lucky draw on a hereford calf and mrs tom ledwidges father william wade toronto was the winner lawyers parents move to town from brighton mr and mrs kenneth langdon of brighton have come to george town to make their home with their son magistrate kenneth m langdon mr langdon sr is also a law yer and will be associated in the law firm of langdon aylsworth mrs langdon is convalescing from a stroke which she suffered earlier this year abolit her position as a telephone switchboard operator it is believed cpl sheffield was opposed to his daughter keeping on with her sum mer job and dropping out of high school cpl sheffield was shot in the back the bullet penetrating the right lung causing it to collapse the officer was taken to hospital and a cib inspector from toronto headquarters and dundas provin cial police were called doreen was later arrested and charged with wounding causing grievous bodily harm bail of 1500 was reduced to 200 on compas sionate
