raising angora rabbits and processing their fur into wool and- the wool into handwoyen articles inspired the idea of forming a groud of women who were interested in a hobby or craft of some kind mrs paul beer mrs a g m bruyns and the late mrs ann lawson formed the first executive and from this nucleus the organization has grown to its present limited membership of fifty five the crafts the outstanding ing one still being weaving now include work with metal leather shells felt and pottery knitting is also done and there are several ar tists in the group and the finished products of arts and crafts are to be on display at their sale and tea so it would promise to be quite an in teresting hour or so one could spend there no one needs a special in vitation and everyone is cordially invited an art which is a little different from the arts of the arts and crafts society is that of the ballet this particular form of the arts under the direction of mrs r b can ham was sponsored by the recreation council some months ago the classes have since been discontinued due to lack of a proper hall in which to hold them but they 4eft in their wake a much livelier interest in the ballet in georgetown than heretofore es pecially among the older pupils who showed a good deal of promise according to mrs canham so it was that the first performance of the canadian national ballet com pany held last week at eaton audi torium was viewed with particular interest by mrs canham and one of her former pupils miss toots murphy they enjoyed it immen sely the auditorium was packed that night as on every night of the presentation this is the first time a permanent professional ballet company has ever been established in canada and it has been organ ized and trained by an english girl celia franco former member of the sadler wells mrs canham estimates that the work she has ac complished in a few months would have taken someone else five years to do the dancers nave been cho sen from every part of canada prac tically so that the company is truly national in scope they now plan to go oh tour and the best of luck to such enterprise mrs canham tells us she knew celia sranca when she mrs canham danced in professional ballet in england and they renewed ac quaintanceship the night she and toots saw the ballet in toronto and another little bit or inci dental information mrs canham has been approached to start ballet classes in our neighbouring town of acton writing is another form of the arts and one of the most famous writers of our generation was george bernard shaw cant say we have been exactly an admirer of his work but we have respected the opinions of the learned critics of the world who have for lo these many years pro claimed him as the nearest thing to a genius in the writing field since the days of shakespeare hope they werent too disillus ioned when they read about the will of the great bard in the papers last week its hard to reconcile the fact that a man of such brilliance would make such a will leaving the bulk of his million dollar fortune to research on making a phonetic alphabet for the english language there is so much good a million dollars could do in this world even his old crony lady astor ter med the will ridiculous and we are inclined to agree to leave the arts for the time being and chat a little about people sorry to see mr and mrs tony restivo leave town theyve lived here on main street for the past thirtyeight years and were proprietors of the fruit store before mr and mrs dick licata took over mrs restivo is a sister of mr licata and they are moving back to their homo city of hamilton where they have built a lovely new home mr and mrs ivan wright and daughter bonnit are moving into the apartment on main street for merly
