because of the fun involved one idea you can copy is a miniature christmas tree for the front window or door you will need a wire coat hanger 15- inch piece of 12inchjchicken wire about 40 sprig of spftue green string 2 yards of tinsel or tinfoil strips and a few novelties now bend the hanger into a fir tree shape using the handle as a base cover frame firmly with chicken wire begin the tree by using three short 9prigs to form the peek then use two long sprigs one on either side to form the two lowest boughs now fill in the tree sughtly over lapping each sprig secure any loose pieces with sticky tape and hank from the window catch or a door knocker you are now ready to trim the tree with tinsel star and ornaments take a tip 1 keep holly where its cool until decorations are being arranged 2 never arrange fir boughs over the mantle if the fireplace is to be used for heating 3 put lighted candles in a place where a draught will not carry the flame to curtains or other materials 4 tie red or green ribbon in bows for dressing up boughs tiny rein deer flower vases serviette rings and such 5 make the plate of sliced christ mas cake festive by tucking a sprig of holly and a few cranberries in the centre 6 a candle with a sprig of green tucked in the holder and placed on the tea or coffee tray brings out the shine on the cnina and silver 7 christmas seals stuck on tum blers or goblets will remain during the holiday season when edges are varnished with clear nail polish 8 an old favourite decoration is popcorn balls tied in coloured cello- phone or use red or green food ha hon county may well be proud of her junior farmers recently it was our privilege to atucnd the an nual public speaking and amateur entertainment contest staced by the county juniors at the milton high school while only three young people participated in the public speaking competition they are all to be commended- for their excellent effort it is no easy task for any- one to get up before a crowded aud itorium and participate in a public speaking competition as stated by mr george e elliott in his excel lent and constructive crltleisrh it is only by practice practice practice that anyone becomes proficient our only regret is that only brook- ville and palermo clubs were repre sented in the competition in the amateur entertainment contest all five halton clubs were represented and what a splendid evenings en tertainment they presented in so far as we can determine all five of the skits or scripts had been writ ten by the juniors themselves which makes their respective efforts all the more praiseworthy this past week having a free evening we dropped in on the regular monthly meeting of the norval juniors this meeting was held at the home of mr and mrs douglas currie and it was inspiring lo find such a clean cut group of young people in atten dance the young men had dr wm mitchell vs of the halton health unit as their special speaker one had only to observe the attention and listen to the discussion which followed his address to know that his subject matter was timely and much appreciated for the joint meeting the young people had an old favourite in the person of mr george e elliott of milton mr elliott took as his subject ivitamines and trace elements however it waj not a technical ad dress but one filled with both hu mour and meat which held his aud ience throughout as we have sta ted on previous occasions we have been delighted to noje the progress being made by the junior farm ers of halton u recent years in brief they have reached the point where they accept responsibility and run their own shows and what a job they can do there is only one criticism which we have to off- and that not only applies to some of the junior organizations but also to many senior groups in brief time does not cem to mean any thing to them they start late and end late the scottish group of young people who visited ontario last summer were also unfavourably impressed y iln- weakness on the part of o many of our rural nrgnn- iation- r say mery christmas with royakbank money orders i availabu in any amount at all branch the royal bank of canada an cotte
