has come and gone so fast and that we are already writing 1952 the start of a new year always inspires some re trospect as well as some looking a what did we do in 1 95 1 that was art improvement on past years what dove jlan to dp in 1952 that will be a further improvement three new herald features com to mind which have created a better paper the addition of twocolum- nists mrs william korzackahd mia wilms stull who supply us with news from glen williams and silver- wood have rounded put the diwrict news which also inclucles columns by mrs mary baily for stewarttown mrs john bellboddy for ashgrove mrs j p kirkwpod for ballinafnd and mrs eves for terra cotta an un fortunate illness has hampered mrs j e makwell who did such a good j6b of reporting for the norval district and we are hopeful that she wij14se able to continue her column in the months ahead the other new columl is a review of new books at the library which is prepared by board chairman j l lambert and we are quite sure that it is enjoyed by readers and will have beneficial ef fects lo the library board too what can we do this year to improve a column of news of post years is ope thing we hope toaccom- plish furt coverage of district news with correspon- 1 dence hti hornby is another aim increased use of pictures though there are economic factors here which preclude using as many a we would like emphasis on the social and personarcolumn to which we have given a great deal of attention in 1951 the year will mark a milestone for the herald when we move to larger quarters this month it will increase efficiency as well as provide better quality in the paper ind commercial printing departments- a new newspaper press will eliminate certain mechanical defi ciencies in reproduction and a foldina machine will make the finished product more attractive two new printing presses for uc in commercial printing will give a better product and al the same time faster service so it is that we look forward to another year we know we won t move mountains twelve years in the editors chair have shown how fast lime goes and how many ideas get side tracked in the weekly rush of pro ducing a newspaper but we will be doing our lest to give a good product and to make the herald a pleasant paper lo read big stories of 1951 noting canadian press reports of the top news slories of 1952 we leafed through the yearly file of henrlds to pick out what made the news headlines in the georgetown district last year for world news canadian press chose i mac- arthur dismissal 2 british election 3
