fitting that the school in which we arc seated tonight was also constructed by another generation of the mac kenzle family this time mr sam mackenzie that they should have been engaged on each of beatrice hume miss luura scott und miss m trie liiklviy have olrcy given in the past five yeirs there hns been an increase of ltoooo school children in the province in sep tcmbcr 1031 a total of 1065 more clissiooms were operating than in september 10v0 to meet the tie mtiidous expansion over 1000 addl tlnnnl classroom must now be pro vlded in this province each ytr these arc not replacements these are addition rooms in june 1030 there were enrol led in halton county mk children in september of this year 1052 the enrolment exceeded 6do0 ond oth crs arc arriving doily to meet this expansion the ritcpicrs of halton county have had to build 1 15 new classrooms at a cost of two and threequarter million dol lors in georgetown june 1030 the enrolment was 280 in september 1052 the enrolment was 760 or almost two and onehalf times as many children and we have not reached the peak to met thed cmands of this in crease you have had to create this new school building education is making tremendous demands on the taxpayer and councils sometimes with reason a look with a critical eye upon the expenditures of school boards and accuse them of extrnvngenoe in this building i ice little to justify such criticism it is substantially and well built these is no elabor ation and little waste space it is pleasing in appearance and con- venient in its appointments it must be a source of pride to everyone in georgetown and should serve well this part of the down for some years to come i share your joy in seeing such a structure in your mldst i would indeed be remiss if i did not pay a high tribute to the school board which has provided such ac commodation for the new genera- tion board and ratepayers have a right to expect much from children educated in such a pleajjnff atmos phere i
